THE ASSESSMENT follows Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel), a successful couple who hope to become parents in a near future where resources are extremely limited and the government keeps firm control over reproduction. They are assigned an assessor named Virginia (Alicia Vikander), who moves into their home for seven days to evaluate whether they deserve to move forward in their parenting journey. What Mia and Aaryan are hoping is a routine test quickly unravels into a psychological nightmare, forcing them to question the very foundations of their society and what it truly means to be human.

Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Vikander, perhaps recognizing how tantalizingly different this type of role is for her, turns Virginia into an unsettling tour de force of disciplined abandon. Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine A provocative and sometimes squirm-inducingly funny sci-fi that gives its three leads lots of juicy material to chew on, with Vikander, in particular, turning her Virginia into a compellingly inscrutable, but not entirely unsympathetic, antagonist. Rated: 3/4 Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com The first feature from [Fleur Fortuné] has a ton of style, and signals from the beginning her confident use of framing, texture and color. Rated: 3/4 Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Chilling because it's both outlandish and alarmingly grounded and plausible, this sci-fi drama is likely to be scrutinized in your own dome long after the credits roll. Mar 26, 2025 Full Review Kent Hill Film Threat It is the show-stealing performance of Alicia Vikander that brings everything together. Watching her run the gamut of emotions till finally uncovering the reality of what price she paid to be an assessor is brilliant, brutal and beautiful. Rated: 7.5/10 Mar 25, 2025 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) The film is at times absurd, other times hilarious, and often just plain bleak. It also features a scene-stealing scorched earth monologue from Minnie Driver that is among the best work she has ever done. Mar 25, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Josie I found the film to be both cold and sensual with the women stealing the show (both the characters and actresses) with the leading man seeming to serve to only hold them back. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review Keven P Honestly, nothing good has hit the theaters until this movie… I’m such a huge fan of dystopian movies and this was a great investment of $20!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review JC Bleak dystopian chamber play with fantastic performances especially from Vikander that’ll leave an engaged audience member pondering on the questions raised. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Tom B Breathtakingly original and ambitious dystopian tale. I enjoyed it immensely. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Linz I wasn't sure what was happening at first. Once they did I was like this is intriguing and nothing I've seen before. I got a little bored at the end and started to get sleepy, but I would recommend it at least once to watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Abigail Really loved the plot of the movie and how it played out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
