THE ASSESSMENT follows Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel), a successful couple who hope to become parents in a near future where resources are extremely limited and the government keeps firm control over reproduction. They are assigned an assessor named Virginia (Alicia Vikander), who moves into their home for seven days to evaluate whether they deserve to move forward in their parenting journey. What Mia and Aaryan are hoping is a routine test quickly unravels into a psychological nightmare, forcing them to question the very foundations of their society and what it truly means to be human.

Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) [Fleur Fortuné's] film feels icily disengaged from other people's ideas, pondering them at a remove – as an opportunity for the actors, a costume brief, a means to an end. Rated: 2/5 May 10, 2025 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times Written by Mrs & Mr Thomas (aka Nell Garfath-Cox and Dave Thomas), the film starts from a sharply focused premise, before turning increasingly wayward; it ends up feeling like a Black Mirror episode extended long beyond its punchline. Rated: 3/5 May 9, 2025 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Vikander, perhaps recognizing how tantalizingly different this type of role is for her, turns Virginia into an unsettling tour de force of disciplined abandon. Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Steve Morrissey Radio Times If it had been twenty minutes shorter, the film would be a lot better, but this is still a cracking feature debut by director Fleur Fortune. Rated: 3/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film The Assessment is a movie based on what someone thinks children are like but has absolutely zero experience with children. Rated: C Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix The Assessment is an emotionally somber but visually stylish drama that shows a post-apocalyptic society where people have to pass a government evaluation test for approval to become parents. The principal cast members give memorable performances. Apr 13, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Josie I found the film to be both cold and sensual with the women stealing the show (both the characters and actresses) with the leading man seeming to serve to only hold them back. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review Keven P Honestly, nothing good has hit the theaters until this movie… I’m such a huge fan of dystopian movies and this was a great investment of $20!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review JC Bleak dystopian chamber play with fantastic performances especially from Vikander that’ll leave an engaged audience member pondering on the questions raised. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Tom B Breathtakingly original and ambitious dystopian tale. I enjoyed it immensely. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Linz I wasn't sure what was happening at first. Once they did I was like this is intriguing and nothing I've seen before. I got a little bored at the end and started to get sleepy, but I would recommend it at least once to watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Abigail Really loved the plot of the movie and how it played out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
