Mathilda M very torn on how i feel about this movie, on one hand its funny and lighthearted, but i feel like the ending made no sense at all? it felt last minuite and rushed, inconclusive and random. Its as if they just halfway through decided they wanted to make pretty much a different film? Also not sure if some of it is mildly antisemitic... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Menachem S Terrible acting!!! Bad story line!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Greta H Must see movie! It deserves 95% Rotten Tomato score. Early Woody - Allen -esque plot, cinematography, and humor. Fabulous casting. Really well acted. Very funny. Very very clever lines and visuals. When I started watching on Netflix I was convinced until the credits that this was a Woody Allen film I had somehow missed. Viewers would appreciate all the humor more if they know something about Orthodox Jewish culture, but you don't have to be Jewish to love it. I watched it in German with subtitles, which gave me the opportunty to hear the lines delivered by the orginal actors, not dubbed. I have pretty basic German language skills but found the German easy to understand with the help of subtitles. Delightful, quirky comedy. Highly recommend. I cannot understand why this does not have professional movie reviews. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved the movie and it made me laugh. Too many people took the movie over seriously and ranked it- too bad because it's a comedy people! Chill and enjoy for what it is Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Motti's awakening comes at the expense of the female characters in this film who are reduced to misogynistic tropes. Whether that's Motti's mother, a caricature of the overbearing Jewish mother, which is self-hating and antisemitic in the screen writer's portrayal. Or the young religious women of his community, who are meek and asexual; and therefore, useless to Motti's sexual awakening. Secular Jewish women and Israeli women are depicted as promiscuous and exotic. And Laura, Motti's gentile love interest, is called a shiksa. An offensive and derogatory name. Motti's shallow rebellion doesn't focus on his rejection of tradition but on his rejection of women; producing a static and one-dimensional story. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A little over the top, but LOL funny. Be sure to watch it in German with English subtitles. The English dubbing is Godzilla bad.
