At its core, the story follows a lone hitman tasked with guarding a mysterious bag, yet this deceptively straightforward setup becomes a gateway into tension, philosophy, and existential intrigue. I feel like it is underrated. Not because of the acting or the plot. In fact, I feel like the cast and crew from a few different projects somehow booked the same location and started filming. They didn't realize until several days in that they were making different movies. They decided they have come too far, and proceeded to merge projects with some intention. For some reason, I tend to give a few points for dialog-based stories that mostly take place in a small physical area. A few extra points for lighting. High contrast, low key lighting, and flickering neon practicals everywhere make for an interesting visual experience. I wish I could have seen this in a theater, so I can look backwards at all the confused faces. Thus, once again it was a delight to see John Cusack as the nonchalant assassin, hanging in-between his abilities and lack of others. Even as a second time it's a 7/10 points! Unlike what most reviewers say, it's not really about the bag or what's in the bag - it's the journey to survive 1 night in a Motel room where no-one can be trusted.
