J. R. Jones Chicago Reader hough recycled, the story is well plotted and paced, and the old hands in the cast elevate the familiar material. Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Carson Lund Slant Magazine For what it's worth, Jared Moshe seems genuinely interested in the role of unflagging decency in a sullied world. Rated: 2/4 Dec 16, 2017 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com Pullman is always great to watch. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 15, 2017 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The scrappy first half eventually gives way to a second hour that grows increasingly routine with its newfound emphasis on personal betrayal and political corruption. But it's nice to see Pullman handed a plum leading role. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 1, 2021 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming The Ballad of Lefty Brown is a highly entertaining Western that's worth going along with for the ride, even if the stagnant finale is unable to live up to the rest. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine There's a lot to enjoy in The Ballad of Lefty Brown's deconstruction of the western's emblematic sidekick character. Kaden D Not good, not bad. It was alright. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review KB B It's kind of predictable and I've seen many similar situations before in other westerns but I still liked it. Bill Pullman was excellent as usual. It's definitely worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Tony D The movie was very good, with lovely acting performances. Friendship trump's ruthless ambition. You have to be patient with the pacing, and the character development is sometimes a bit flawed in my opinion, but the "payoff" is worth it. The thing I most admire about it is the sense of frontier justice. You just can't do certain things back then: stealing a horse, rustling, taking a life, etc. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review pat o This is as good a modern Western as I have watched for a long time. Well worth a watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Connor B I made a rotten tomatoes account just to tell the world how much this movie sucks. Ever wanted to watch a movie where every character is boring and has zero depth or development throughout the film? Have you ever wanted to watch a movie where almost nothing happens and by the time it's halfway over you start thinking about how you'll never get these two hours of your life back? Oh boy do I have the movie for you then! I don't think I've ever watched a film with a less likeable character than Lefty, he's just a bumbling idiot throughout the whole thing, but not even a charming way, you just get frustrated watching. The 2 major antagonists in this movie are so void of personality or character too. Not to mention there's huge issues throughout with the editing, composition, and lighting in so many scenes, feels like a student film at times (with the acting too). If you want to watch a good modern western, watch Bone Tomahawk instead. Much better film and Richard Jenkins plays a better version of a Lefty type character in that movie than Bill Pullman does in this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review jim t Imagine Gabby Hayes with Chester's limp losing Roy and managing to survive on his own. Pullman is one of those who can do anything well. Ditto Jim Caviezel. Kathy Parker plays Victoria Barkley on steroids. Add in a fond last look at Peter Fonda and you have an entire cast that keeps you riveted. Director Jared Moshe succeeds in a genre that has been surprisingly difficult since the days of John Ford. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
