Claudio C The Beach House (2019) Strange Horror Movie (11,689 – 12 May 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) Emily (Liana Liberato) and Randall (Noah Le Gros) travel to the beach house of his father to spend the weekend and make amendments in their troubled relationship. The town is deserted, and they have sex and rest until the next day. When Emily goes to the kitchen to have breakfast, she sees a woman and calls Randall. Soon they learn that she is Jane (Maryann Nagel), who is spending vacation with her husband Mitch Turner (Jake Weber) in the house, and they are friends of Randall’s father. They befriend each other and decide to stay together, since the house is big enough for two couples. They drink, have dinner and eat edible marijuana and soon they are all affected by strange behaviors that they believe were caused by the marijuana. Jane and Randall get sick and soon the house is covered by fog. Emily finds a police car and learns that the fog is full of microbes from the underwater rocks released by global warming and people shall not breathe in the fog. Now she fights to survive and save Randall that is sicker. “The Beach House” (2019) is a strange low budget horror movie by Jeffrey A. Brown. The plot is too short, and the pace of the film is too slow to complete 88 minutes running time. The screenplay does not help, maybe because of the pace and the budget. I question whether favorable reviews are honest. My vote is three. What's that on the beach? I enjoyed the idea of this film more than the execution. Liberato plays a character that is studying astrobiology but is unable to deliver her lines as convincingly knowledgeable of the subject. I loved that the characters have somewhat of an excuse for making mistakes as they are on drugs. Some nice set pieces but jump scare fans will be disappointed until the end. It has an ethereal vibe once the drugs hit. One of those films I enjoyed but wished I could've enjoyed more. The continuity, the scenes, camera angles, and soundtrack and more for this movie truly is disappointing. This movie had the possibility to be great, and did not live up the the rotten tomatoes score from the critics!
