Scott G. I enjoy this movie. It’s mostly slow and calm. There are some silly scenes, but as much as anything, it’s the beauty of the landscape that makes this movie so enjoyable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Dale R Starring Patrick Wayne as a military vet that lodges on a lake near a Native American settlement. While there he adopts three bear cubs that lost their mother to hunters. Most of the movie is narrated by Wayne’s character. I’m not a fan of this form of storytelling because a movie is a visual narrative and shouldn’t be told to you, but shown. If a family movie about cute bear cubs seems like your thing, then check this movie out. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member ★★★ (out of four) In some ways this is a typical Disney live-action feel good movie. It blends the nature docu-movies the studio made popular in the 1950's with a decidedly 1970's envirinmental attitude. It isn't great, but it has a surprising amount of heart that makes it hard to discount. Patrick Wayne plays Bob Leslie. He has just returned from a tour of duty in Vietnam and he is a lost soul. He heads into the wilderness to visit the native american father of a friend who was killed in the war. Leslie loves the beautiful scenery and the lake. He stays there for a while, alone in a cabin. One day he sees a black bear with her three small cubs. When she is killed he adopts the three bears. More mature than most Disney films of that period. It suffers from an all-too-obvious attempt at being topical, but is still better than I ever expected it to be.
