Kumail is a Pakistani comic, who meets an American graduate student named Emily at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship blossoms, he soon becomes worried about what his traditional Muslim parents will think of her. A little slow to start but it's funny, quirky and great storytelling. I'm glad there was more highlights in the movie beyond what is in the trailer. Great performances, especially Ray Romano and Holly Hunter!

3.75 ⭐️ | Simple movie. Simple plot. But damn, those emotions hit the heart dead center! That's how it wins you over. Beth & Terry's chemistry completely outshined Kumail & Emily's. Emily's parents stole the heart and the show!

A rom com with some complications that make it more interesting than the typical rom com. An American from a Pakistani background meets a blond from North Carolina in Chicago, where they both live. Kumail is a stand-up comedian and a total embarrassment to his family because of his work. He tells them he's studying for the LSAT, but as he explains later, they want him to be a doctor. Emily is a grad student studying to become a therapist. She is develops an infection and is put in a medically induced coma as treatment. The rest of the story is compelling, and in the interest of keeping it so, I'll leave it at that.
