The Black String may well be a bit too close to the DNA of It Follows, but it manages to form its own identity with a level of body horror that's satisfyingly grisly, anchored by a Muniz performance of nervous energy.

I wouldn’t call this an entertaining movie. But I would say that it DEFINITELY is a consciousness raising film. Frankie Muniz does a masterful job of portraying someone in the throws of a psychotic, or hyper-manic episode. Anyone who has had experience will definitely feel the pain and anxiety that goes along with it. The blurring between reality and delusion is often enhanced by reality in these cases. Was he really dealing with malevolent supernatural forces? Or is it all the result of a psychotic episode? As in real life, it’s often a mixture of both reality and delusion. I was quite taken in by his performance. If you want insight into the mind of someone who is battling with delusional psychosis? This is worth a watch. The fact that it s so real makes it quite unsettling …

I don’t understand all the reviews that said the acting was great. It definitely was not with the exception of Frankie Muniz who did do a great job. I think it had potential, but you never found out the why or even the what. I would not recommend this.

Very good acting and the plot was different. Frankie Muniz was excellent. I wish the ending was different but to be expected. I am surprised that people mentioned "sex" and "gore" as this barely had any. This wasn't an episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" for Pete's sake. I definitely recommend it.

Overall, I was pretty surprised to see actor Frankie Muniz return to the big screen featuring in a horror movie. For the most part, the actor performs adequately, and the same can be said about the film plot. As a horror movie, it's undoubtedly an excellent slow-burn film, with my only significant disappointments relating to the film's third and final act.
