Andrew Gaudion THN The Black String may well be a bit too close to the DNA of It Follows, but it manages to form its own identity with a level of body horror that's satisfyingly grisly, anchored by a Muniz performance of nervous energy. Rated: 3/5 Aug 28, 2020 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media Psychological horror has swearing, violence, sex, and gore. Rated: 2/5 Jul 10, 2020 Full Review Brittany Patrice Witherspoon Film Threat Elevating this script from a derivative and simple one is no easy task, but Muniz does it effortlessly. Rated: 8/10 Jan 13, 2020 Full Review Wade Major DigiGods Really cool, intelligent psychological horror film. Dec 2, 2019 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com It is an average movie with an above average performance from Frankie Muniz - yes that Frankie Muniz Rated: 6/10 Oct 3, 2019 Full Review Joey Keogh Wicked Horror Its premise isn't the strongest or most original, but [Frankie] Muniz's vanity-free performance in the lead role effortlessly carries this mostly entertaining film from beginning to end. Teri K I don’t understand all the reviews that said the acting was great. It definitely was not with the exception of Frankie Muniz who did do a great job. I think it had potential, but you never found out the why or even the what. I would not recommend this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Melissa L Very good acting and the plot was different. Frankie Muniz was excellent. I wish the ending was different but to be expected. I am surprised that people mentioned "sex" and "gore" as this barely had any. This wasn't an episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" for Pete's sake. I definitely recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Peter W Overall, I was pretty surprised to see actor Frankie Muniz return to the big screen featuring in a horror movie.  For the most part, the actor performs adequately, and the same can be said about the film plot.  As a horror movie, it's undoubtedly an excellent slow-burn film, with my only significant disappointments relating to the film's third and final act. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review Jen G Acting was decent but script was a mess. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Frankie Muniz is great and makes the character believable. Story is unpredictable and full of surprises. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/23/20 Full Review Audience Member Very good acting from all the cast, especially from its main star Frankie Muniz. and it was creepy & atmospheric throughout. but the end result could have been so much better.
