Eric N After watching all nine episodes of Masters of the Air, I took an extra hour to watch this well-produced documentary, which definitely complements the series. We meet several of the main characters from Masters of the Air, including "Rosie" Rosenthal, who was as fascinating a person in real life as he was in the series. There aren't really any new revelations in the documentary that aren't covered in the series, but it is interesting to see original footage from WWII, along with hearing the thoughts of various veterans in their own words. I'm grateful to Apple TV+ and the producers of Masters of the Air for producing such an excellent companion piece to the series. If you enjoyed the show, you will certainly enjoy The Blood Hundredth, as well. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Sal D Poignant insight into the experiences of WWII veterans. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Charley S Solid doc to accompany masters of the air. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review W.C. M For those who loved Masters of the Air, this is the essential backstory told with interviews of its remarkably courageous pilots who flew with the 100th in WWII, including some of the very pilots who were featured characters in Apple's excellent series. John Anderson Wall Street Journal Directed by Mark Herzog and Laurent Bouzereau, the nonfiction account of the airborne armada... is intended to augment the dramatic series. But as good as that series may be, it has to take a respectful back seat to the real account and the real men. Mar 19, 2024 Full Review Jack Seale Guardian It assumes you’ve already seen Masters of the Air. You should indeed watch the drama first, because while the documentary is a perfectly decent summary of the same story, it can’t muster the same romance or spectacle. Rated: 3/5 Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media The Bloody Hundredth is a wonderful documentary accompaniment to the TV dramatization series Masters of the Air. Mar 25, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider The archival interviews with the real-life heroes portrayed in Masters are revealing, and the wealth of newsreel footage compiled in the doc is utilized with a sharp eye for detail.
