Byron H 3/4 From a cornball perspective, it's a masterpiece. A hilarious concept that should not be taken seriously. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Rob C OK, so the thing with these movies is... you have to rate them based on the impression they made on you the first time you saw them; not the impression they make on you when you watch them now. Having said that, my first viewing of "Brain" was sometime in the early 1970s, watching a local NY TV show called "Creature Features"... basically, a sci-fi / horror film was shown every Saturday afternoon. And I was all of maybe 9 years old. Down in my parent's windowless basement. All alone in that darkish basement, with just the glow from the 19" Black & White TV to keep me company. And the door to the utility room just a few feet away... A guy (John Agar) walks into a dark cave. Creepy music starts to fade in. There's a distant light in the cave up ahead... music gets a bit more suspenseful, a bit louder... suddenly, you are face-to-face with a floating giant alien brain!!! This movie absolutely scared the sh*t out of me as a 9 year old. I kept imagining that Gor (the evil Brain) was going to come after me out of the utility room... or my bedroom closet... or from outside my bedroom window at night. You get the picture. A kid's imagination (at least a kid back in the 1970s)... A few year's back I found the DVD of this online. Watching it now, you notice all the 'flaws' that escaped that 9-year old kid. The strings holding up the Brain(s), and the aircraft that blows up... the plot holes (some as big as a house)... why would a brain have eyes inside of it, instead of attached by external optic nerves..? And why would a brain float around..? And why would the "good" Brain need to hide out in a dog to keep tabs on the "bad " Brain..? You also notice some interesting 'side plots' that a 9-year old would probably miss. Like why is an alien Brain so absolutely horny for a human female? Oh, and that human female is actually pretty hot. And the absolute relish that John Agar takes in really hamming up his role... I really do think he enjoyed playing this part. I've heard that the creepy reflective aluminum contacts he wore to show when he was "possessed" by the bad Brain almost blinded him permanently. Anyway, in summary, this movie really is "so bad it's good". I do need to add, that any enjoyability depends heavily on the age of the viewer. I tried showing this movie to my 9 year old grandson - and he thought it was "stupid, boring, and not scary at all!" (his words)... so, caveat emptor! But, all you boomers out there - I think you will enjoy this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review 16mmguy Abysmally great. There's no other way to describe it. The end of the film could accurately be judged masterfully inept. A laugh riot, right up (down) there with Plan 9. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Audience Member With some times crappy acting, dialogue and effects, The brain from planet Arous has developed a cult following and has because a sci-fi cult classic. I found it to be very entertaining and fun. It is understandable that with a small estimated 58,000 dollars they could not do much. Although it's story is a little ridiculous i still recommend this movie for entertainment and laughter. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I shall rule the Universe from Earth, but you keep the planet--Arousal from space!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review bill t Pretty amazing movie about a guy who gets possessed by a power hungry brain from another planet who wants to take over the universe. Fortunately, another brain arrives to help the man's girlfriend get rid of the eeeevil brain. Thunderously enjoyable just because everything is taken so goddamn seriously. Like when the other brain arrives, the girlfriend and her father just start accepting everything the second brain says. Things like that make this definitely your worthwhile to see.
