      Critics Consensus

Meandering and mostly unfunny, The Bubble gums up an all-star cast with hackneyed gags about showbiz and pandemic life.

Don't be fooled by all the funny people in the cast -- The Bubble is two largely laugh-free hours you'll never get back.

Jim H not funny! Not a scene. I really tried hard. Those massive talents, do they only work for the money, or do they read scripts as well? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Alec B A real disappointment, especially since there's so much one could actually satirize here. Apatow settles for a kind of cowardly laziness where he sort of remakes "Tropic Thunder" without any of that movie's edge or humor. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Katie D This is a dumb movie, but it knows it's dumb. I laughed, but I like silly stuff. I can understand why other people didn't like it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Ronald W About a half hour too long ,but still enjoyable Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Vincent F Very few jokes and lots of pointless dance sequences make this hard to watch. A surprisingly good cast for such an unfunny turkey. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Steve D A completely humorless mess despite the talent. Robert Levin Newsday There's an undercurrent of desperation in the frenzied dialogue readings and hamming for the camera, as if the skilled people assembled here somehow implicitly felt the need to compensate for the writing by forcing things. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 24, 2022 Full Review Oliver Jones Observer It has nothing new or insightful to add to the discourse, and instead seems comfortable recycling jokes that weren’t funny when we first encountered them on Twitter two years ago. Rated: 0.5/4 Apr 20, 2022 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Maybe I’ll regret writing this after a rewatch – or when we’re back in lockdown after the Pi Epsilon 2.0 variant – but there is semi-purpose and not insignificant pleasure to be had in Apatow’s experiment. Apr 13, 2022 Full Review Tyler Strandberg InSession Film The Bubble bursts without much payoff. Rated: D- Jul 19, 2023 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community Rather than a specific comedic experience with a clear vision, [The Bubble] is a patchwork of skits over two hours that's clumsily jammed together. Rated: 5/10 Jan 4, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies This COVID-era clunker attempts to riff on everything from the pandemic to Hollywood celebrity status. But it ends up being a scattershot mess that’s so full of itself that it’s completely unaware of how unfunny it is. Rated: 1/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
