Police Chief Paul Lanigan (Art Carney) battles crime in a small town, aided by his friend Rabbi David Small (Bruce Solomon). The duo investigate the source of gunfire in a home occupied by two brothers. The older, a reclusive miser, has been shot and killed, while the younger has injured himself in a fall after trying to pursue the mysterious shooter. Lanigan and the rabbi identify the brothers' niece as the likely suspect, but soon they discover that the situation is not what it seems.
