Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Dryly funny and unsparingly acerbic, "The Cannibal Club" has one simple point to make about the hypocrisy of the aristocracy ... and Parente makes it sharply. Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety A diverting, stylish, but ultimately rather trite satire whose social critique and grand guignol aspects never quite come to a full boil. Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound Guto Parente's darkly funny class satire offsets oppression with revolution, and keeps showing the blood, vomit and cum that bespatter and sully these characters' immaculate-seeming lifestyles. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Dax Ebaben Bloody Disgusting The Cannibal Club is, above all, a good time. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 31, 2021 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Bold, sumptuous Brazilian thriller/satire about power between classes, and within relationships. Shorter than it seems, not as gory as it seems, both entertaining and thought-provoking. Rated: 4/5 Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy Guto Parente effortlessly switches from social comedy to tense thriller and back when necessary, and while The Cannibal Club has its moments of Grand Guignol horror, they never become its centerpieces. Audience Member atuações boas e fotografia e edição muito boas, AMEI esse filme Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is an exploration into the elitist indulgent behavior when it crosses into the darkest, more sinister of tastes. It utilizes elements of early video nasty pics filled with gory visuals, and a mild exploitative sexual nature. The film also transcends its egocentric background to encompass a relatable storyline that, minus language, could easily fit Italian / Europeanut / American giallo cinema. Basically "The Cannibal Club" is relatable regardless of demographics. Parente's characters do feel slightly contrived in that they never fully mature into complete characters. They seem more like mimics than completely understood personas. That being said, what we do get is enough to sell truly entertaining satires of elite psychopaths. I mean they use domestic help menus to choose a victim and use sex as a seasoning / flavor enhancement. The special effects are graphic scenes of gore and carnage done expertly. Most of which are practical. Even the CGI elements are a quality that have the same quality and impact of the practical stuff. I have to say that even though "The Cannibal Club" isn't what I was expecting, it was such a fun, entertaining and graphic horror drama, one worth checking out!
