Critics Consensus

The Cobbler represents a slight step up from Adam Sandler's recent comedies, but while its cloying sentiment proves a more palatable substitute for his usual crass humor, it still isn't terribly compelling.

Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics Ugh. Rated: 0.5/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Emily St. James Vox The Cobbler is the rare movie so terrible that it's hard to figure out why it even exists, why somebody didn't run in front of the speeding train of its production yelling, "Stop!" Rated: 1/5 Dec 17, 2015 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) Much play is made on "sole" and "soul", and Sandler looks depressed throughout. Fine - let it be him for a change. Rated: 1/5 Aug 2, 2015 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The influence of the present conditions in America, as reflected through a limited and rather predictable artistic prism, largely derails The Cobbler. Feb 12, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Has more sole than soul, and is a bit flatfooted in its approach to the story, but it is a nice change to see an Adam Sandler movie and not be bombarded with bathroom humor. Rated: 1/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Edwin Arnaudin Asheville Movies A clever, charming, old-fashioned, and frequently touching comedy. Rated: 4/5 Jun 12, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Tessie C Could've been good. But it wasn't. Took a gruesome turn. Surprised it's not rated R cause of the gore. Yes, that's right, Gore. Save yourself the wasted time. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Elizabeth B I didn't discover this gem until earlier this year... `10 years after its debut. I loved it! In fact, after watching it on Prime, I bought it. I was surprised to learn it got no Oscars. I thought it should have, especially if there is an award for editing. It was like watching a long magic show, always some little surprise to keep you on your toes. I found the film thoroughly enjoyable. Then yesterday I find out how badly it was panned. I can't understand that. And I'm not changing my mind. This movie is clever and delightful and witty and charming. One of my favorite bits was when Max is wearing the Asian man's shoes and says something then is genuinely amused to hear he has an accent. Clever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Kylie B This is a surprising and heartfelt change for Sandler, while also being familiar. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review colleen c I watched it early on a Sunday morning after a 13 hour shift and then a few drinks. Thought it was silly and cute. Not everything can be The Godfather. That's a lot of sarcasm. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Madeline Trash. Pure, Unadulterated trash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Chris S It's cobblin time. With movies like Adam Sandler you can't lose Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
