Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Refreshing movie where everything important is said between the lines. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member very similar to my days in London. The snapshot of his life reminded me of many days of not fitting in, hoping something good was going to happen, & when something did happen, questioning if it was good enough. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This started promising but went away too nothing and fizzles. Nathan Stewart Jarett and Ed Hogg were both good but the romance with the flatmate was weak and the story didnt know where it wanted to go. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant, captivating all the way through. Gritty and miserable british cinema making at it's best. Ben Walters Sight & Sound The Comedian is impressively alert to the power of the unspoken. The whole cast is quietly expressive of shifting, ambivalent feelings. Jul 31, 2018 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times The world is reaching out to gay romance right now. But it takes a lot of reaching to like Tom Shkolnik's The Comedian, or even to understand what it is saying. Rated: 2/5 May 31, 2013 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian Shkolnik knows what it is to be shrugging along in the city with not enough money in your pocket, and no idea what to do with yourself. Rated: 3/5 May 30, 2013 Full Review Ben Nicholson CineVue The Comedian does have moments that feel remarkably true to life... In this instance though, realism does not make for compelling drama and one is left longing for a spark of energy. Rated: 2/5 Feb 26, 2019 Full Review Jason Solomons The Mail on Sunday (UK) London-set low-budget The Comedian is baffling. The questions it poses are not flattering: How did it get made? Who on earth would want to watch it? Rated: 1/5 Oct 31, 2017 Full Review Damon Wise Radio Times There's not enough of a story to sustain The Comedian through its frequent lulls, but its lush cinematic style suggests Shkolnik is one to watch.
