      Critics Consensus

The Contractor is caught between message movie and standard-issue action thriller, satisfying neither aim despite strong work from a talented cast.

      Audience Consensus

It takes some time to get going and there's less action than some might expect, but The Contractor is still a well-acted thriller with a story worth telling.

Doris I didn't care for this movie. Some of the speech sounded warbled and muffled. It was a hard movie to figure out what was going on. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/18/22 Full Review Timothy D Great thriller. Chris Pine is so good in this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/22 Full Review RICK Decent storyline about how the men and women who serve and defend this country are often used and discarded once they have served their purpose. Follow that up with a man's desire to provide for his family and highly skilled combat veterans are prey for mercenary type operators. Once the mission goes awry, it soon becomes obvious that no one can be trusted to keep their word and survival comes at an exorbitant cost. Decent action, but too many unanswered questions left unanswered. Entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/16/22 Full Review Michael S Great action line and actor Chris Pine was awesome with a great ending Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/22 Full Review lisa Slow, confusing at times. Danny Leigh Financial Times The easy mesh of the actors sells us the relationship: Foster the tinder-dry joker to Pine’s quiet man. Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2022 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine There’s a tense, tightly constructed thriller here — and Chris Pine makes a decent play as a neo-Bourne. Rated: 3/5 May 9, 2022 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service There is a bleak poetry to Davis script, as the men reckon with the things theyve done as lifelong warriors. Theres no pontificating, just a few choice words and details that add nuance to a story, or flip it on its back. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 8, 2022 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews The Contractor is one more generic action flick with a story borrowed directly from the formulaic Hollywood closet, without any surprises or even high entertainment levels. Rated: C- Jul 25, 2023 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...the picture’s slow-but-steady descent into irrelevance is triggered by a generic and rather bland midsection... Rated: 2/4 Nov 24, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The further it goes down the genre route the more it loses its relevance. And as an action movie, Saleh never fully gets the film off the ground. So it isn’t as pertinent as it tries to be or as kinetic as it wants to be.
