Josh Bell Crooked Marquee Somewhere in here is an innocuous message about tolerance and harmony, but it's buried under the tone-deaf dialogue, sloppy historical detail and flat performances. Rated: C- Feb 9, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Ray M This is bad acting at its zenith! The dialogue stinks. The story itself might have done better with real actors, but the dialogue needed work (which it obviously didn't get). The letter written for 'Andrew' was in book form .. The plantation owner was unblievable ... The Grandfather .... well the voice was 'canned'. In fact most of the dialogue was 'canned'. I have to say that the acting for the plantation scenes was much better - except for the plantation owner. He was unreal. Too much seething anger ... etc. Soldier scene could have more work to sound more like a soldier in command ... I appreciate that the storyline was making a point of the treatment of slaves and women in that time. But it could have been better served ... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie. I cried tears of terrible sadness and i cried tears of joy. What a story with a lovely ending. Knowing our history at times is so painful and shameful but luckily we have come away stronger. I love the story line. Don't let anyone divide us. We are all God's children. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely LOVED this book, so I had to watch the movie! There were a couple of changes in the movie that I didn't particularly care for, but it's that usually the case when a movie is based on a book. Considering this was a first for both the author of the book and the director of the film, all in all, it was still pretty good. Definitely worth watching and I HIGHLY recommend reading the book!
