chris f This is like a slow, boring, dry version of K-On mixed with a murder mystery. It's definitely emblematic of the general problem with Japanese live-action films, in the sense that it is very "tell, not show" in a lot of ways. It's not the worst watch by any means, with lots of softness, feminine charm, yuri undertones, and a few dark academia vibes here and there. But man is it slow. The first act starts with this zinger of an opening and then it just dredges into a crawl. It's intentional every step of the way while it languishes, and it's not even a terribly bad experience. But it's also really easy to bounce off the lethargic pace of this film while it tries to build itself up, and that can be a bit exhausting if you're unprepared for it. However, this film can earn brownie points on its soundtrack alone. FANTASTIC. No notes. Just good stuff. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
