Audience Member This movie is a jewel. There are no other films showing us the Algerian, Berber mountain culture; no other film where I found it impossible to take my eyes off of any face through the whole experience. Apart from this brutal, spare, and beautiful document to the merging of past and future communities, the young girl's journey is a narrative that will steal your heart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member At first I didn't know if I would like this film at all, but it really touched my heart...especially in the end. It took me on a journey, and I was swept in. A good & memorable film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A compelling film about the bonds between a mother and a daughter separated at birth. Raised in Switzerland by adoptive parents, Rallia embarks in a fascinating journey of discovery of her Berber roots, culture and personal story. From the beginning to the end, Rallia's journey takes unexpected turns. Cinematography at its best, along with natural acting and a wonderful script, this movie is a must for world cinema lovers. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member (2002 Directors: Manhdi Charef & Mehdi Charef) An adopted child on the quest for the true story surrounding her adoption\, travels to the desolete Algeria, the land of her birth. This French film is unrated, but might deserve an R rating. Cultural differences and violence toward women among the Magrebe are reasons I might perhaps give it an R rating.

Definited a "worth see." The last two movies I watched were incredibly stirring.

I have a personal penchant for cultural films, and primitive culture certainly applies to this movie. Smaller than a small town the mountains in which this small family reside are treacherous and water is a precious commodity. It actually stirred me enough to leave me a bit teary-eyed, which is extremely rare for me. I may be naive, but I didn't expect the ending at all. Loved this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The story of a young woman who travels from Switzerland back to the place she was born for the first time in Algeria in Northern Africa. Though she was adopted by Swiss parents and had lived a good life, her need to find her mother and ancestrial culture carries her on a long and difficult journey. When she first arrives she meets her grandfather and an Aunt (who has obvious mental health issues) only to discover her mother lives in another town far away from them where she works in a hotel. She soon sets out once again with her Aunt along, to finally meet her mother face to face. The harsh weather, the cultural differences, especially in how poorly woman are treated there becomes lessons she must learn on her journey. A good & memorable film.
