Robert Ordoñez Photographer/Actor Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The David Dance, which has won numerous awards, was a remarkable gem that I stumbled across on a night out at the Carlton theatre in Toronto. I am certainly glad that I went. There were many chords in the film that personally resonated with me, bullying in school, struggling with insecurity, and dealing with religious homophobia to name just a few. At times, I was brought to tears and at others to laugh. Don Scime, the writer/actor/producer of the film, personally attended the screening (one of the great things about the Carlton is having producers and actors from films attend - something you don't get with the big name theatres) and that was an unexpected treat since the audience was able to ask questions about the film. I certainly recommend seeing this film. The film has many layers which show a true writers talent and the actors did a wonderful job immersing the audience in the characters they portrayed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review kevin t Interesting and heartful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a good movie at all. The themes were out of date. The production values uninspired. The best I can say about it is that it tried. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Logy, stagey and overlong. Nov 3, 2016 Full Review Helen T. Verongos New York Times This film retains many of the qualities of theater. But without the benefit of theatrical devices that might clarify the order of events, its time warps undermine the plot. Oct 13, 2016 Full Review Chuck Wilson Village Voice [A] painfully dull film ... Oct 12, 2016 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The film, with these two elements working with the script, feels cozy and personal. The David Dance is a well-crafted family drama with characters the viewers can care about and want to follow through their rough patches. Apr 16, 2020 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential Being different and open is a challenging endeavor in Don Scime's The David Dance, a heartfelt indie film that questions religious dogma and tackles the validity of America's objections to non-conventional family structures.
