Susie Q @RT11618517 Apr 21 Saw this yesterday. Hilarious! Fun and full of dancing and singing. Pokes sticks at so much pc woke nonsense, it's a laugh a minute. Good actors too. (Although I'd say Wilson NOT one the best, imho. But plenty of others who are terrific.) Highly recommend for a 'spirit lift'. PS. Perhaps not if one is easily 'offended'! See more Jed O @Jed19871 Apr 13 I really enjoyed this. It's uniquely Australian, and this was just so well done - 4-5 proper laugh out loud moments and a really enjoyable story line. Not often that you can get depth and comedy in a movie. I've only dropped half a star as I was not a huge fan of the dance scenes - some of them felt as an add on and not really necessary. It was funny, it had depth, it challenged thinking. Hard to get all of these and balanced in a comedy. I just wish it got more recognition and exposure - I do think this will be a hit when it moves to streaming - which I hope is soon. Was also nice seeing the late Julian McMahon. Charlotte MacInnes leads as "Maeve" a suspended student from an elite city private school who is sent to stay with her cousin "Taylah" (Natalie Abbott) in the drought-stricken town of Dunburn just before a traditional debutante ball. As the self proclaimed feminist voice of our generation this schoolgirl flashes more than her privilege at assembly and earned the hashtag cancelpig. The "FML" song opens the movie and sets the tone for the outrageous "The Deb". "The Deb" has been adapted from the 2022 musical with insanely catchy songs by Hannah Reilly and Meg Washington. Rebel reserves some of the best lines for her character "Janette". It will become a cult classic like "Adventures of Priscilla", "Muriel’s Wedding" and "Strictly Ballroom". "The Deb" ugly duckling and fish out of water tale is pitched perfectly to a female audience and even this ageing prolific movie reviewer. See more Read all reviews
