Mae Tinee Chicago Tribune It's inept, and cliche ridden, with our hero being woodenly noble for every Inch of the footage. Jun 18, 2020 Full Review David N. Butterworth rec.arts.movies.reviews Less "the thundering story of the mighty bring-'em-out-alive mission of the USS Poe," and more a character study of a conflicted man of faith. And in that latter regard, "The Deep Six" succeeds. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 17, 2016 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Dull war pic. Audience Member Skip the entire first half hour; it's filler and the stage could have been set for the rest of the film in ten minutes. The 2nd act is pretty weak, too. Lots of clichés featuring horny seamen brawling when they're not chasing good-time girls, and life aboard the Tin Can Navy. The Big Climax is a fizzle. Alan Ladd is terrible as our conflicted protagonist. William Bendix turns in a workmanlike performance as the ship's chief as does James Whitmore as the skipper. Efrem Z is passable as the handsome young ship's doc several years before joining "The FBI." Keenan Wynn mails it in as the XO. Joey Bishop is the boat's lothario before joining the Rat Pack. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review ashley h Deep Six is a horrible film. It is about the conflict of duty and conscience of a naval gunnery officer. There was no action and the conflicts were not well dramatized. Alan Ladd did not put much effort into this role even though I liked him in the movie Shane. The script is dull and boring. Rudolph Maté did a terrible job with directing this movie. I would not recommend this motion picture. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
