Critics Consensus

A rare film that surpasses the quality of its source novel, this Devil is a witty expose of New York's fashion scene, with Meryl Streep in top form and Anne Hathaway more than holding her own.

Deborah Ross The Spectator It's Meryl's movie, everyone says, and in a way it is. She gives a furiously funny performance as a furiously nasty bit of work... But, as I said earlier, scenes without her suffer horribly. Aug 22, 2018 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader An agreeably shallow comedy. May 27, 2008 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Makes one pine for any comparable '50s working-girl comedy (or, for that matter, 1988's Working Girl). Rated: C Jan 11, 2007 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies When you think of the final years of Fox before the Disney acquisition, The Devil Wears Prada is one of the standout films--they don't make them like they used to. Rated: 5/5 Jun 30, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com If looks can truly kill, Meryl Streep's Miranda may very well be the fashion industry's most notorious serial killer. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 6, 2020 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) This one goes out to anyone suffering the whims of a tyrannical employer. For you, this will be so much more than a fun, fashion-conscious comedy. It will be therapy. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 11, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Olga I The first time I watched this film when I was a child in the late 2000's. I was impressed with this glamours world of high-fashion. I didn't understand Andy's decision to leave the role of Miranda Priestlys assistant, because I was sure that everyone wants to be on the top and have luxurious clothes. Lately I rewatched this film with a fresh eyes. I totally agree that Miranda is vicious, arrogant, notorious sadist. I think todays gen Z and Alpha wouldn't allow to be treated like that. I was happy when Andy decided to quit. In pursuit of success and Mirandas approval she lost herself, because Andy is kind inside and don't want to walk over people. But at the same time I can understand why Miranda became herself. The world of show business is wild and if you want to survive, you should have a strong character. The film kept me interested. I like all this little quips, funny scenes and cheesy moments. Highly recommend this film because of engaging storyline, important topics and memorable characters. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Ed . This film's about nada. Breezy movie but empty and shallow. Like cotton candy. Watch for Meryl's scenes and Simon Baker in a towel. And for a fashion primer on cerulean blue. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review lazula _ I find the idealization of Miranda so weird? I thought she was actually gonna be iconic because I watched the movie before the book but all I got was an actually brutal and awful employer. I get that Miranda probably had to be tough to work her way to the top but... I'd hate to have her as my boss Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Julian S. Without Streep and Blunt, it’s just glossy noise. They’re the only ones giving it any shape. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review Brian D 74%. 7/26/25. Hadn't seen score. Film is entertaining enough. About a smart girl trying to be come a journalist getting a job at a fashion publication. It's fun to see her start to care about her job and slowly winning Miranda's respect. Good cast with Emily Blunt and Adriene Grenier also. Had a few chuckles. 3/5 rewatch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review BRizz 2 The Devil Wears Prada – A Timeless Classic 👠 The Devil Wears Prada is an absolutely incredible, iconic film — one of those rare movies that feels like it was made specifically for its audience. With powerhouse performances from Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep (not Glenn Close, though the confusion is common!), it delivers everything from fierce drama to razor-sharp wit. The direction is tight and focused, spotlighting the “evil boss” dynamic that eventually unfolds into something far more layered. Watching Hathaway’s character transform from a timid assistant into a confident, empowered woman is so satisfying — especially with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly giving her the ultimate, if brutal, push. This is a classic that will live on for generations. The editing, the fashion, the comedy, the little quips — all of it is polished and purposeful. It strikes that perfect balance between biting commentary and heartfelt storytelling. I highly recommend this film. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a must-watch. And if you have? Watch it again. I’ve probably seen it at least 30 times myself — and I’m still not tired of it. 👠✨ That’s all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
