Phil Hoad Guardian It feels like a lockdown project that needed exposing to a bit more outside air. Rated: 2/5 Sep 14, 2021 Full Review Kimber Myers Crooked Marquee This indie horror movie isn't just a lesson on the price of getting what you wish for; it's also an 82-minute class on how to make an unnerving film on the cheap. Rated: B+ May 15, 2021 Full Review Kristy Puchko Pajiba Charbonier and Powell know how to brew atmosphere and empathy, creating child characters who feel fleshed out and not like precocious poppets to be pitied or fawned over. May 14, 2021 Full Review Mo Muzammal Vague Visages In The Djinn, Dewey provides a moving performance. Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Cody Dericks Next Best Picture At times, "The Djinn" seems to intentionally withhold exploring anything outside of the small confines of its story in a way that feels limiting rather than ingenious. Rated: 5/10 Jul 11, 2022 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall This thriller is quieter than most, creating a relaxed, realistic tone while the scary stuff gurgles up underneath. Camero W Are we watching the same movie ? This was like a really bad, long episode of Stranger Things. The acting was terrible, the plot was awful, and the entire movie took place in an apartment. They just went room to room hiding. And the soundtrack was so bad. Like really bad. Such a cheap reach. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review David L Good movie. The whole movie takes place inside a small apartment but the director uses it to his advantage and it doesn’t feel like it subtracts from the film. There are times when you as the viewer feel cramped and claustrophobic but that’s a good thing. Good horror movie with a standout performance from the lead actor Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Clarissa M Simple story, but effectively delivered through efficient storytelling and a solid performance by the lead actor. While scarce in backstory due to minimal dialogue (naturally) and limited run time, the movie is still able to establish its main character and move at a healthy pace by dropping in only the most important details. The lack of dialogue also eliminates the unnecessary, often god-awful, exposition plaguing modern horror films and obligates the audience to fill in the gaps — which makes an otherwise familiar story with well-known elements a satisfying watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Emilliano Jr S Be careful what you wish for. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review jamil h This is not even horror. The story, acting, special effects were very bad. Very long and boring camera shots moving around/panning. There were no actual scares, even the jump scares were not scary. Even if I approached it not as a horror movie, it was simply a nothing burger. Bored out of my mind. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review jona i Very well-crafted and an engaging performance from the lead actor! However, it does fall to the indie-horror weakness of filler shots that slow the action. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
