This movie was amazing with incredible acting by Helen Mirren and the cast. It was REAL and all about the lives of one who has suffered, but endured by her own creed. I could not believe the low rating and poor reviews, but I guess these people have never really lived or even know what it means to be alive. i feel sorry for them. In any case, this film will stay with me for a very long time.

I cannot believe some of the reviews I read. This is a good movie, well written and well acted. Yes, it is slightly quirky, but a mystery well made and a story well told. Helen Mirren is outstanding in her role. Definitely recommended.

Such appalling acting by all concerned. I can't believe Helen Mirren could give such a wooden performance. It was like watching Amateur dramatics or a school play. I watched about half but in the end gave up as it wasn't worth wasting my life on it.

I found this movie very engaging. I enjoyed watching the characters, and learning what 1960's & 70's Hungary was like. I also liked the little flavor of other-worldliness that sometimes peeps through. Overall, very enjoyable and worth seeing.

The acting was excellent but the script left something to be desired despite the interesting back story. However, the scene where she beats the dog with the spoon was unnecessary, imo. What was missing from the script was that the author's work was never really addressed, nor why she received recognition for it. That might have made it more dimensional.

Gorgeous movie, beautiful performances by all cast members, beautiful soundtrack with great performances by Hungarian musicians of pieces by Robert Schumann. Very moving story of relationships, and also how people cope with having been treated brutally, having become brutalized themselves, but still maintain their humanity in spite of their deep bitterness and resentments.
