“The Dutchman” the movie doesn’t quite transcend the feeling of having been a play... Still, as with any great theater, the performances here are superb. Go to Full Review

It’s an ambitious misfire, a big swing with a lot of ideas, but it’s so airless and stuffy that those ideas are never given any room to breathe. Go to Full Review

While the film looks and sounds cohesive, the script gets muddled in its execution. The Dutchman boldly attempts to subvert audience expectation, but in doing so loses sight of a not fully realized message. Go to Full Review

This film lingers long after the credits roll, its haunting ambiguity a testament to its power. Holland and Mara elevate it to must-see status, while Gaines’ bold vision ensures The Dutchman stands as a highlight of SXSW. Go to Full Review

Holland and Mara are the strong center of a film that still has me on a tightrope between "like" and "love" due to stylistic film-making choices almost being outweighed by writing ones but nevertheless, is a film that still lingers in my head. Go to Full Review
