Dan Sallitt Senses of Cinema In its final third, [director Pang Ho-cheung] finally shakes off genre, as the film simultaneously breaks down into meandering semi-improvisation and finds a droll comic tone that nonetheless stays on the surface of the weighty subject matter. Audience Member An unusual Pang's movie with a dark mood. A good try but may not be attractive for most people. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member a toned down, local verson of a Clock-Work Orange Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Never afraid of pursuing an idea too far, Pang Ho-Cheung once again pushes the boundaries of the politically correct with the bizarre conspiracy-themed Exodus. The movie's outlandish, and possibly offensive, theme is presented in a highly serious manner, similar to the deadpan pseudo-gangster look of Pang's previous dark comedy Men Suddenly In Black, enriched by a technically immaculate production, including some of cinematographer Charlie Lam's best work. Exodus won't fly as easily as Pang's previous films, though, as it seems to require a rather dull observational approach with exceptionally long stretches of inaction for the viewer to buy into it's surreal story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A really interesting topic that I would least expected to be made in to a movie. And the topic would be " how to kill all the bad man". Yes, the movie is set where woman gather together discussing how to kill man that were deemed bad and unloyal. Nick Cheung once again was perfect his bring to life his character. The twist and turned plots are interesting and this genre of movie definately just brings Hong Kong movie to a whole new level. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Pang Ho Cheung takes on weird. I think he's trying to be funny, right? right? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Pang Ho-cheung's style is not as transparent as other more commercially minded directors, but the almost surreal first scene and the revelation at the end made the movie worth my time. Looking forward to more from him, because he has his own unique directorial style, and I actually like it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
