Thomas M I loved it. I saw this movie at a film festival and it kept me involved, I was entertained and it made me think. I always judge movies on whether or not I still think about the film later and if it was memorable. To me, that’s all that matters and this movie had interesting characters, mystery and twists that showed depth I didn’t expect. Many creators do the best they can with the budget they have and this is a low budget film, I see so many people criticize movies simply because they’re low budget. Big budgets don’t always make good movies and they did a terrific job sharing their idea and story with very little and that impresses me most of all. If you like new creators, indie films, actual story telling, you should enjoy this one. Would love to see more from them! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Alex W The Eye of the Salamander is a quirky sci-fi adventure with a fresh concept, though it occasionally struggles to balance its tone. The film shines in its unique setting, drawing on Aztec mythology to build a story steeped in mystery and folklore. The protagonist, Professor Hiscock, is a memorable, if unconventional, hero who brings humor and depth to his role. The practical effects and nostalgic nods to 1980s sci-fi films are commendable, giving the movie a distinctive visual style. However, the plot sometimes veers into chaotic territory, leaving parts of the narrative underdeveloped. Additionally, while the comedy lands well in some scenes, it detracts from the suspense in others. Overall, this movie is a fun watch for fans of offbeat sci-fi with a touch of humor, but it may not appeal to those looking for a tightly plotted thriller. It’s an intriguing blend of ancient mythology and modern science, but it doesn't fully deliver on its ambitious premise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Carolina S Wow, The Eye of the Salamander is a hidden gem! From start to finish, this movie takes you on a wild and unexpected journey. The blend of Aztec mythology and quantum physics is imaginative and brilliantly executed. The visuals, especially the eerie catacombs and glowing figurine, are mesmerizing and transport you to a whole new world. Professor Hiscock is a standout character. His quirky humor and unconventional heroism make him both relatable and captivating. The story balances comedy and suspense effortlessly, with moments that had me laughing and others that genuinely gave me chills. What I loved most was the nostalgia factor—this movie felt like a love letter to 1980s sci-fi classics, with practical effects and a whimsical sense of adventure. Yet, it also brought fresh ideas and originality that kept me hooked. If you’re a fan of sci-fi, ancient mythology, or just a good, fun movie, The Eye of the Salamander is a must-watch. It’s creative, thrilling, and downright entertaining. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Matt H The time, energy and budget for making and distributing this film might be the biggest single waste of resources surpassed only by those of us who donated to Kamala's campaign. I like schlock - but this is "schluk." My take is, at best, and only for moments at a time, it's Napoleon Dynamite meets Land of the Lost (sans all the good actors from each). Ticket Buyer BEWARE...
