Hugo An anthology of multi-cultural and multi-language horror short movies, mostly focused on folklore and pagan myths. Every story is unpredictable, weird and sometimes gruesome. However, there is a discrepancy in the quality of the different stories. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/03/22 Full Review Darin P Way above average for a horror compilation. Beautifully shot, well written stories from 8 different mythos. A lot of it is pantomime so you have to pay attention. This is not a slasher horror relying on loud noises in place of content. All different writers and directors with native casts. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/22 Full Review robert p A great guide to the other side of the veil where man prevails makes this an exciting set of tales worthy of a *4* star movie!!!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Really cool, some vignettes are better than others though. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely great collection of folk tale/urban legend horrors. 100% fresh. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Its random senseless jump scares. Dont waste your time watching this thrown together trash. Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle If the worst effect of A Field Guide to Evil is that it encourages viewers to study up on creeps and scares of the world, that's a sacrifice worth making. Rated: 3/5 Mar 28, 2019 Full Review Isaac Feldberg Cut Print Film A love letter to horror, and a well-timed reminder that what scares us knows no physical or linguistic borders, it will hopefully mark the beginning of a spooky, satisfying, significant collection. Rated: 7/10 Dec 16, 2020 Full Review Sezín Koehler Black Girl Nerds 'The Field Guide to Evil' sets up a new cross-cultural paradigm for the anthology horror film, and it is most welcome. Rated: 4/5 Apr 9, 2019 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos Off-base and so colored by modern obsessions and prejudices. Oct 10, 2018 Full Review Alan Zilberman Washington City Paper While each film is from a separate country, the similarities highlight what folklore shares across cultures. Oct 10, 2018 Full Review Katie Driscoll Starburst Overly long, with only a few stories working coherently, but elicits a cosy, Tales from the Crypt fireplace feel.
