Audience Member Carino, pero troppo sdolcinato Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Dramma familiare senza buoni ne cattivi; Mastrandrea e Ramazzotti promossi, cosi come la storia. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Emotionally charged comedy drama about a strong willed mother and her children, evocative of powerful nostalgia about childhood and what it means to be a family. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member ok period piece looks at one woman's struggle to raise her kids. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Good comedy/drama about a dysfunctional Italian family and the memories of the eldest son. Nice story, well told. Keith Uhlich Time Out This was Italy’s official submission for Best Foreign Film to the 2011 Academy Awards (a red flag more often than not), and, sure enough, there’s little here that rises above middlebrow. Rated: 2/5 Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Tom Keogh Seattle Times Virzi approaches mawkishness but he never crosses the line. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 25, 2011 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe "The First Beautiful Thing'' is shameless, and, damn it, I cried anyway. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 9, 2011 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Perhaps a bit too long with a tendency to lose itself in a labyrinth of flashbacks. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 11, 2022 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com A warm and welcome foreign film treat about learning to cope with the fact that one's parents are actually people too. Rated: B Jul 14, 2011 Full Review Stan Hall Oregonian The high-pitched emotions, gesticulations and occasional near-hysteria seem completely normal and genuine.
