Claudia M One of the most important films of our time. Willem Dafoe is stunning. You can’t look away and although it’s not comfortable to watch, there’s light in there. The kids in this movie were simply amazing. Prince should've gotten nominated for an Oscar, she was that good, though too young of course. Dafoe is gonna die and I'm going to be unsatisfied with the amount of movies he's done- should be in 2 a year. THE most original story I've seen in a long time. A must keep movie- I put it in my top 25 all time and I have over 1700 movies, you do the math. LOVED IT and Thank You Sean Baker- you so captured the vibe of that situation AND Orlando. Dafoe received a much-deserved Oscar nomination for his performance but the film deserved more (the cinematography for one). Baker tries to present the story from the child's perspective, something incredibly hard to do, yet largely succeeds even if the dialogue and/or actions may be incomprehensible at times (at least from an adult's view). Halley is a "bad girl" yet Baker succeeds in portraying her in a way the audience empathizes with her and her situation. In reality Halley is a young woman who wants to have fun like anyone else her age, but caring for a child with scant resources and support system makes it nearly impossible to pull off. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Jorge N It’s so real it becomes uncomfortable to watch. This movie proves you don’t need a huge budget to tell a great story. It’s so authentic it overwhelms you. The characters are so human and flawed that you both worry about them and get frustrated with them—they’re truly endearing. Seeing the city, their home, hits hard with reality and reveals a side rarely shown, but you instantly connect—it’s wild. The writing is wonderful; you feel the chaos in each character’s life, making you want to know more and frustrating you because you can’t help them. The art and production design are stunning—the color palette sticks with you long after. If I have to point out something negative, it’s that sometimes the pace jumps up sharply only to drop suddenly (though, well, that’s real life). Also, the final scene’s camera shift is a bit jarring—when you notice the change in filming style, it takes you out of the moment, but it makes sense since it was shot with a regular camera inside the park. In summary, a wonderful, simple film that feels so real you sometimes think you’re watching a documentary with a unique personality.
