Ed Potton The Times (UK) It’s superficially less bleak than Tangerine, rendered by Baker in tropical colours, but poverty lurks throughout. Jul 29, 2022 Full Review Christy Lemire What the Flick?! I knew form the first shot that I was watching a truly great movie... It's so real, it's so raw. Rated: 9.6/10 Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Kambole Campbell One Room With A View A work that combines boundless energy and childlike enthusiasm with dark social realism, Sean Baker's wildly inventive style of filmmaking has resulted in the gorgeous masterpiece that is The Florida Project. Rated: 5/5 Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Baker’s brave and bracing film is far from a whimsical fable. It is a dramatic thumbnail depiction of a growing section of this nation’s culture that many may not want to admit exists, let alone condone. Rated: 5/5 Oct 13, 2024 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Baker's vision for The Florida Project is brilliant in concept and even more vital in execution. The ending to this film is easily some of the best filmmaking of 2017. Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Trevor Johnston Radio Times Its potent combination of empathy, observation and miraculously natural performances make this a modern classic, with strong echoes of Ken Loach's very best work. Jorge N It’s so real it becomes uncomfortable to watch. This movie proves you don’t need a huge budget to tell a great story. It’s so authentic it overwhelms you. The characters are so human and flawed that you both worry about them and get frustrated with them—they’re truly endearing. Seeing the city, their home, hits hard with reality and reveals a side rarely shown, but you instantly connect—it’s wild. The writing is wonderful; you feel the chaos in each character’s life, making you want to know more and frustrating you because you can’t help them. The art and production design are stunning—the color palette sticks with you long after. If I have to point out something negative, it’s that sometimes the pace jumps up sharply only to drop suddenly (though, well, that’s real life). Also, the final scene’s camera shift is a bit jarring—when you notice the change in filming style, it takes you out of the moment, but it makes sense since it was shot with a regular camera inside the park. In summary, a wonderful, simple film that feels so real you sometimes think you’re watching a documentary with a unique personality. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Johnny B Packaged in a raw, realistic format, The Florida Project is such a real and mesmerizing observation that it goes beyond what many other filmmakers are capable of. Sean Baker is a pure, living talent capable of transcending movements and concerns beyond the screen. A deeply moving tale that uses its young cast, especially the stellar Brooklyn Prince, as an orchestra of chaotic division and reinforcement throughout the plot. In addition, the ending is meaningful and precious, like a rare gem that keeps us with us. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Ernest B Sean Baker's best and it's not close. One of a kind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Cory C A heartbreaking tale of a young child living in the happiest place on earth when her life is far from it, even though she has no idea. Willem Dafoe makes a great performance with an excellent supporting cast of real characters.
