Ed Potton Times (UK) It’s superficially less bleak than Tangerine, rendered by Baker in tropical colours, but poverty lurks throughout. Jul 29, 2022 Full Review Christy Lemire What the Flick?! I knew form the first shot that I was watching a truly great movie... It's so real, it's so raw. Rated: 9.6/10 Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Kambole Campbell One Room With A View A work that combines boundless energy and childlike enthusiasm with dark social realism, Sean Baker's wildly inventive style of filmmaking has resulted in the gorgeous masterpiece that is The Florida Project. Rated: 5/5 Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Baker’s brave and bracing film is far from a whimsical fable. It is a dramatic thumbnail depiction of a growing section of this nation’s culture that many may not want to admit exists, let alone condone. Rated: 5/5 Oct 13, 2024 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Baker's vision for The Florida Project is brilliant in concept and even more vital in execution. The ending to this film is easily some of the best filmmaking of 2017. Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Trevor Johnston Radio Times Its potent combination of empathy, observation and miraculously natural performances make this a modern classic, with strong echoes of Ken Loach's very best work. Luke R One of my favorite movies ever. Absolutely heartbreaking and full of life. The child actors are phenomenal; Willem Dafoe is still Willem Dafoe and that's always more than enough for me. Actually I found the single mom herself to be the least compelling character, but that didn't take away from the experience of watching. This was a gripping, generous look at themes including family, poverty, gender, and the confusing overlap of lasting childhood innocence and being forced to grow up too fast because of circumstances beyond your control. The writing is stellar and the movie is beautifully shot without being self-indulgent. There are several moments where, if you're like me, you will fist pump and shout "hell yeah!" at the screen. There are several moments where you will do the opposite and wish you could unsee what you just saw. A tour de force of contemporary drama and tasteful, not-too-pushy social commentary that is always in service of the story rather than a "message." Highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Takeachance H Full of totally unlikable characters including the kids who are rude and disrespectful. You keep waiting for something to happen but it's just the next day of rude kids and a terrible mom. The William Dafoe character is the only likable person and he really doesn't do much. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/27/24 Full Review KOOKLA C This is entertaining but it's not really a movie. It's just watching little kids play all day in a hotel. Very sad. I did watch it mostly all but not worth the 2 hrs I lost. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Audience Member The best movie of the year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review R W Being from Florida, this movie gets it. There's an underworld of poverty around Disney. This hits all the highlights of that part of town. Orange Blossom Trail, I-Drive, souvenir shops, seedy hotels. I don't know anything about the producers, writers and directors but I bet they're from that area. Spot on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Dylan H Poverty and sadness in the most magical place on earth. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
