The Foreigner could've used less of Brosnan's bombast, frankly, and more of the mysterious Mr. Quan, but this dark-edged little razor blade of a film is ultimately a satisfying comeback for Chan. More, please.

Martin Campbell directed this twisty, bracing political thriller, giving Chan room to display his dramatic ability and letting Brosnan flesh out a vigorous, complex character who's surrounded by frenemies with secrets of their own.

The foreigner was a much better movie than I anticipated. Very well written and Jackie chan and pierce Bronson were great in their roles . It would be nice to see more movies like it. Especially without all the woke ideology that seems to plague Hollywood...you won't regret watching it

Brosnan delivers a hugely satisfying performance, worthy of more credit than he was given. The movie is engaging from the start, and he delivers on the acquired elegance and emotional intensity of the political ascension his character enjoys. The film requires a paradigm shift in order to fully appreciate it. Chan delivers the action-thriller portion, but Brosnan carries the intellectually broader plot from the very beginning. Well worthy of a second watch!

I was tempted to give it four stars. It lost that half star for the annoyingly lame title. But the original title was even lamer, "The Chinaman", otherwise it would have lost a whole star. This movie was a pleasant surprise. I found it by accident while rooting through the virtual dumpster that is the Verizon lineup. The "Critics Consensus" up there has it wrong. It does not stick to the formula, and that's its saving grace. The "guy you shouldn't have messed with" (Chan) is onscreen far less than half the time. We don't have to sit through any Wile E. Coyote-style engineering on his part. He doesn't "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out"; he does the sorting. The real story is not the revenge but the intrigue. The writers walked a fine line between Chinese inscrutable vernacular and British inclusivist nannying, and the end result is something original, something watchable, something that draws you in and keeps you guessing. Deadly serious Chan shines.

If you’re looking for a solid thriller, this is it. The fights are super creative and the plot actually keeps you guessing. Honestly, the best part was seeing Jackie Chan still kicking serious butt in his 60s—he hasn't lost a step.
