Claudio C May 12 Alpha Gateway / The Gateway (2018) Good Story with Failed Execution (11,685 – 10 May 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) The scientist Jane Chandler (Jacqueline McKenzie) and her assistant Regg (Ben Mortley) have been researching a teleporting machine for five years and have one more month to present results; otherwise, their financing will be called off. Jane is happily married to her supportive and loving husband Matt Chandler (Myles Pollard) and they have two teenage children, Samantha (Shannon Berry) and Jake (Ryan Panizza), and Jane’s sister Ruth (Hayley McElhinney) helps her now and then. One day, Matt’s bicycle is hit by a car, and he dies. Soon Jane finds that the machine is sending objects to a parallel world. She decides to use the machine to travel to the other world where she meets the widow Matt, since Jane died in this world. She brings him to her world, restoring her personal life and keeping secret from neighbors and friends. But soon she learns that her husband in the parallel world is a dangerous man and does not want to return to his world. “Alpha Gateway”, a.k.a. “The Gateway” (2018), is an Australian sci-fi feature, with a good story and failed execution. The writers seem to be lazy, leaving minor failures along the plot that could be easily resolved. How would a scientist risk her life to travel to a parallel world without testing first with guinea pigs (rats, dogs, cats and others)? How would she bring a strong man to her world without any research about him? Further, Jane leaves many doors open along the story (teleporting chamber, car, houses etc.) indicating a careless scientist. Last and not the least, the tight acting of Myles Pollard is more for “Robocop” than of a loving man. My vote is six. However, it did drag at certain points and ended on a cliffhanger. See more thomas l 12/01/2022 Nestled in the confines of a sci-fi movie about parallel universes lies a story about family dynamics. With strong performances from Jacqueline McKenzie amd Ben Mortley, the special effects never overwhelm the acting and the storyline leads me to wanting more. John V. Soto does not waste any space in the story and it stayed interesting from start to finish. There is so much more to explore here. Well done! Good job! See more 03/13/2022 This movie has a very low budget, but that doesn't matter. This movie, unlike huge Hollywood productions, actually has a compelling story and decent writing. The actress that played the daughter is pretty bad but it rarely hurt the viewing. See more 12/15/2021 Excellent movie !!! Where's the sequel ? See more 07/17/2020 What a great sci-fi thriller, if you don't like this movie its because you are a blow-up everything, transformers person. This movie had a great story line, the characters were well developed and you didn't have to focus on all the mumbo jumbo other parallel world sci movies carry with them. Totally enjoyed and was hooked after the first 10 mins. It's been a while since I seen a sci-fi thriller that made sense, and left you wanting more. I wish they had more time with the pods and explain how they work and what it feels or looks like traveling between worlds. I also hope they make a sequel it was left on a big cliff hanger but it completed the story at the same time which is hard to find in movies these days. A+++ See more Read all reviews
