Richard Briand-Charmery (Jean Gabin) spends most of his time at the racetrack, gambling his life away. Unfortunately, his bets are so far off base, he begins to lose his life savings. When Richard suddenly gets the good fortune to go on a much-anticipated date, he finds that he's short of the necessary funds.
