A useful way to consider both the brilliance of Sellers and the damage he wrought, as well as demonstrating the ludicrous leeway granted to celebrities and the ways that obvious warning signs of possible mental illness often went unheeded. Go to Full Review

It's a really interesting spin on that subgenre of documentary about films that never got made... Because it's being directed by the person who tried to make the original movie, it adds an interesting layer. Go to Full Review

A documentary about the making of one of the worst movies of its time, and maybe all time. Go to Full Review

Like Burden of Dreams, Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, and Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau, this is another fascinating documentary about the making, and sometimes undoing, of a difficult production. Go to Full Review

If failure is the greatest teacher, then Peter Medak has earned his doctorate with The Ghost of Peter Sellers. Go to Full Review

...Films about film-making are often vain this works because it’s so painfully honest; to rephrase Billy Wilder, the film-makers start out wanting to make a great film, and by halfway, were delighted to think they’d have any kind of film at all. Go to Full Review

Alec B 01/09/2024 More moving than I anticipated. This is likely because Medak goes into this with more perspective and nuance than a lot of people would. See more 06/09/2021 Peter Sellers had a reputation for being difficult to work with. For poor director Peter Medak, he was impossible to deal with, making every effort and succeeding to sabotage the movie Ghost in the Midday Sun. The movie studio refused to release it because it was an irredeemable mess. We are left feel Peter Medak's pain and to wonder why such a comedy genius was such a dick See more 01/17/2021 A good biography style film centering on one Peter Sellers film. If you like Sellers but don't know much about him, you should like it. See more 01/02/2021 More moving than I anticipated. See more dave d 10/20/2020 'The Ghost of Peter Sellers' could have been titled 'The Jerk', but it's an illuminating look at a man in crisis (Sellers) during a down turn in his career. The director of this picture, Peter Medak, was also the director on a troubled production back in 1973 starring Sellers. That film was made and never released, but Medak mentally hasn't fully recovered over 40 years later. This is his therapy. It's structured in a linear way and if you're into that behind the scenes stuff, this is for you. If you like the process of how a movie is made you will also love this. This is essentially about Medak's relationship with Sellers and it's fascinating. What i love about this is the filmmakers not only tell the tale of the film, but also give it context. If you're a Sellers fan you will want to catch this, but you may not like what you see. In the end, it does seem like Medak has made some peace of mind! Final Score: 8.1/10 See more 09/09/2020 This wasn't simply tedious, it was stunningly, appallingly, miserably bad. I'm a Sellers fan, and it revealed zero of interest about him, or Milligan for that matter. There wasn't a single interesting behind the scenes moment, no illuminating back story, (unless you count Medak recounting a commercial shoot). It consisted mainly of Medak whining away endlessly with and to various old Brit movie industry people and pointlessly revisiting the location. Early on, one interviewee tries to persuade him to get over it, and it soon becomes apparent that this doc ought to have ended there and then. The only irony is that the movie itself was no more watchable. For fuck's sake save your $4.99. My recently dwindling faith in RT critics has finally been flushed down the drain.
