Siddhant Adlakha Variety “The Glassworker” goes beyond merely aping Miyazaki’s distinctive style. It gets to the heart of the anti-war sentiment that underscores much of his work. Stephen A The Glassworker(2024): A Studio Ghibli film if you bought it on Temu. I could be more forgiving of the terrible animation and tepid character design, but the dialogue, story, and side characters were really bad. Sadly, it met my expectations as I wasn't hopeful after seeing the trailer. Solid cast as it seems they hired actual voice actors and not rely on A-Listers who tend to be awkward in the voice acting department. And though the score was quite lovely, it was obvious they cribbed it all from the Joe Hisaishi playbook. Almost as if they prompted an AI chatbot to just give them a Joe Hisaishi score. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Joseph O It reminded me of a Studio Ghibli movie set in South Asia. While the setting was novel and interesting, the animation style, the retro-fantastical flying machines, and the plot were all very similar to Ghibli movies. Hopefully it was meant as an homage to that studio. The plot gets a little murky at the end. I am wondering if they omitted parts that would have fleshed it out more to keep the movie close to the commercially acceptable 90 minute run time. Note: there is war, death, and graphic violence so this is not a kids movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/21/25 Full Review A K Very moving story about innocence and the loss of innocence. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review Audience Member It's just an amazing movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Fatima J The Glassworker is an absolute masterpiece. It is a blend of excellence, aesthetic genius and fosters a brilliant storyline. Directed by Usman Riaz, a talented and underappreciated Pakistani, it is a must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Sarah K To be completely honest, as a big anime and Studio Ghibli fan, this movie was really disappointing. The characters were unattractive, the proportions were off, and the animation quality was poor it doesn’t feel like true ANIME ❌. The storyline was clichéd and boring. The character designs were strange, with huge bodies and tiny faces; even the kids looked like adults. It seemed like the studio didn’t put much effort into the art. The only redeeming factor was the music, which is why I gave it half a star. Overall, it felt like a complete waste of time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
