delysid d A Painfully Stupid Film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/27/18 Full Review Audience Member A gory, campy good time with several ridiculous moments. It's about as close to a giallo as HG Lewis ever got, and it's a shame he stopped his output after this, as it's one of his best and it showed he was growing as a filmmaker. The over-the-top, goofy humor helps offset the extreme gore, that is not often matched, even now in its gruesome nature. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The opening giallo-inspired scene of a gloved hand smashing a woman's head repeatedly into a mirror is just the start of the gonzo violence to come in The Gore Gore Girls: cartoonishly graphic images of faces getting both smashed to pieces and melted away in a pot of boiling water, the snipping of a woman's nipples and catching the resulting flowing liquid in cocktail glasses, and the most brutally silly use of a meat tenderizer ever put on screen. This underground classic also features some oddly amusing elements: a genre-defying middle-aged cane-sporting dandy private detective, a town filled with cut-rate Preston Sturges characters, and a strip club patron that randomly spends his time crushing produce at a bar owned by Henny Youngman (yes, that Henny Youngman). Holding The Gore Gore Girls to traditional critical standards would be challenging, and it would be missing the point. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The Gore Gore Girls is Herschel's masterpiece. But you need a dark sense of humor to appreciate its greatness. These are the kind of movies that inspired Quentin Tarantino and Rob Zombie's love for grindhouse cinema. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member There are a couple of scenes here completely unlike anything else in the entire history of cinema. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Though it is supposed to be a cult flick among trash fans, I found it boring and dull most of the time. I didn't care at all about the plot nor the identity of the killer, nor for the asshole private detective, nor for the unattractive strippers who danced like gorillas. The only thing I really noticed here were the over-the-top gore scenes, which were on one side disgusting and disturbing, on the other hilarious, cheesy and campy. Only watch if you want to see some goofy gore scenes, otherwise waste your time on something with an interesting plot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
