For better and for worse, the beautifully filmed Green Knight is a different take on a classic story that takes its time in the telling and leaves a lot open to interpretation.

Roxana Hadadi Pajiba At its center is a performance from Patel that walks the knife's edge between folly and vigor, between wisdom and lamentation, and between predetermination and doubt. Dec 7, 2021 Full Review Dana Stevens Slate Lowery's elusive adaptation withholds its meaning up to and beyond that final image of a mossy stump. It's left to the viewer to puzzle out the ending for herself on the way home -- an invitation to another most excellent adventure. Dec 7, 2021 Full Review Christina Newland iNews.co.uk Sprawling, strange and dreamlike, David Lowery's interpretation of Arthurian legend is ripe for our time, and Dev Patel is excellent as the headstrong Gawain. Rated: 5/5 Dec 7, 2021 Full Review Victor Pineyro Seventh Art Studio Lowery's ability to represent dark and medieval fantasy in an original visual way, while adding to the deconstruction of the hero's journey, gives a sense of power to the film. Patel was the perfect choice. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 8/10 Oct 23, 2024 Full Review Zach Youngs InSession Film The Green Knight is a cinema experience like few others. Jacob I'm sure if I'd gone to school to be a film nerd, this would've been a cinematographers artistic paradise, but none of that really ads up to an entertaining movie. The set designs and costumes are lovely, and the fantastical elements that were sprinkled in were cool in concept, but the whole movie has maybe an hour of actual dialogue. You really find yourself waiting for something to happen, and then when it does, you're left wondering what just happened. If it's gonna be boring, it may as well be nice to look at, I guess. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Robin B Movies can be artsy without being absolutely insufferable to sit through. This is a waste of two hours Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/15/21 Full Review Daniel M a beautiful, meditative treatment of the gawain stories Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/21 Full Review Ronald Poor poor movie...one of the worse of all time! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/13/21 Full Review SILVER B Ending was confusing but great movie still fuck yeah!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/12/21 Full Review Rick P This was the most pathetic attempt at movie making I have ever seen. I see 40 movies a year and I have never seen a weaker storyline, if it even had one. Who wrote this, a tenth grader ? Did they write it for any particular reason ? It made no sense, it had no plot, you never knew if he was in reality or a dream. The ending was baffling. He was praised but STILL got his head lopped off ??????
