Drenched in dark atmosphere and bolstered with some real emotion underneath all the chills, The Hallow suggests a wonderfully horrifying future for director Corin Hardy.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com By the time The Hallow builds to its breathtakingly personal climax, it's hard not to be impressed by what Hardy has accomplished. Rated: 3/4 Aug 22, 2016 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The Hallow promises to be an Irish mythological horror, replete with wee folk and banshees. Unhappily, it merely namechecks these entities and delivers nothing of the sort. Rated: 2/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader This ecologically themed horror movie scores points for atmosphere and imagination, though it isn't particularly scary. The characters are little more than ciphers, so I wasn't inclined to root for them when they got into trouble. Nov 19, 2015 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts It definitely had me hooked and I think if you guys like a little action-packed, monster folktales this one is for you. Rated: 7/10 Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com While The Hallow indeed captures a certain ambience lost in many glossy, effects laden contemporary horror films, it's a monster movie without any teeth. Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews An atmospheric haunted-house fright tale involving paranormal activities, ecological themes, folklore tales and lots of scares. John L I really enjoy a fish out of water story, especially when the fish has no damn idea how bad it's gonna get! Filmed in Ireland, the beautiful environment is greatly removed from most of our comings and goings, and sets up a slow burn that's well worth the 97 minutes. It's the all too familiar fear of loss, inside an inescapable struggle for survival against that which refuses to leave the shadows - that makes this movie a top 20 on my list. It's 28 Days Later meets The Ritual. Get it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Heather W Slow and soggy, nothing you can be afraid of, no one you can root for… a bit of a fail on all accounts. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Audience Member Great building sense of menace that lapsed into silliness later on. Bearable Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Audience Member Great creature feature! Some real nerve racking moments and I loved the practical effects. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Jennifer S I found this movie very entertaining and so so creepy. So wish there was a sequel because the ending was a perfect seqway to have one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Art W Forgettable, predictable, and just not a very good movie... the special effects were okay and the acting was decent, but the story itself wasn't compelling and the character development was non existent.. do yourself a favor and find something better.
