When a young, mentally handicapped girl is found dead nearby, Lorraine Petrovich (Ann-Margret), an older woman who spends most of her time watching police procedural television shows, confesses to the crime and accuses her abusive live-in boyfriend (Nicholas Campbell) as well. But after Lorraine is jailed for the murder, lead investigator Jen Powell (Marg Helgenberger) discovers that the real killer, upset that someone else is taking the credit for his murder, plans to strike again.
