Rated 0.5/5 Stars •  Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review ronald h I've never seen so many clichés and stereotypes in one movie: Mississippi rednecks, crooked cops, backwoods southern evangelicals, a corrupt town "boss," two FBI agents having an illicit affair. It's all been done so many times before, how could a screenwriter possibly justify it? Just to give an example of the characters here, the opening scene features a sheriff's deputy (married with kids) getting oral sex in his cop car from a 16 year old cheerleader. A black guy pulls up to his window and interrupts the proceedings to buy some meth. Yes, the deputy is also the local dealer. The plot involves a congressman's young daughter, running away to elope with her fiancé. The two of them pull off into a remote country spot to have sex and spend the night, and somebody shoots them. The FBI is called in because of the girl's father. Everybody in this town is a scumbag: the sheriff, who knows about the meth dealing but does nothing about it; the high school principal, who regularly sexually abuses a female student with a paddle and videotapes it; the town "boss," who kills off anybody who inconveniences him. The FBI agents are no angels, either. The male agent is an out of control alcoholic, and the female agent is in love with him for no apparent reason. Add in lots of annoying southern rock on the soundtrack, and you've pretty much got the idea. There's no point in elaboration or analysis. It's just one big long cliché. 1 1/2 stars because the meth dealing deputy eventually tries to redeem himself-----as if anybody cares. At the end the Federal Agent killed the bad guy then planted the gun on someone else made the ending horrible. It is too long, the dialogue is unbelievable and stilted, the characters are so stereotypical they are cartoonish, and the two FBI agents are completely unnecessary for solving the crime. None of the character's side story lines are relevant to the ultimate plot, nor to they make you feel anything for the characters. It is just a poorly made movie. The only interesting development is to see the local deputy go from a major scumbag to a dad and husband with a heart who deeply cares for his family.
