Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times The personality flaws of the characters and the dysfunctions of the household are instantly recognizable from this very capable cast, yet they never come off as clich. Dec 11, 2015 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times The movie overflows with pungent street flavor: yelling in stairwells, confrontations, threats, countless expletives and the occasional family gathering. Nov 5, 2015 Full Review Sheri Linden Hollywood Reporter Using Bronx locations and a strong cast of Caribbean-Latino actors, director Henry Barrial constructs a convincing portrait of a neighborhood and its Nuyorican culture. Oct 20, 2015 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com The House That Jack Built isn't quite the arresting and innovative drama it could be, but Barrial's film is definitely worth a look. Audience Member There is theatrical excess in the unrelenting pileup of dramatic situations, which hobbles the film's credibility. In particular, Jack's problem with his sister's sexuality and his mother's blindness to his line of work defy belief. A third-act crisis, somewhat out of left field, leaves the film suspended in unresolved issues. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it feels like a cop-out here.
