Dennis Harvey Variety Never transcends a predictable narrative trajectory to deliver much in the way of creepy atmosphere, let alone actual scares. Oct 10, 2014 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times "The Houses October Built" proves one of the more successful attempts at the found-footage horror flick since "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones." Oct 10, 2014 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times If you're relatively easily scared or are in a theater full of people who are, the film might be good for a few screams. But only if you're the patient sort. Oct 9, 2014 Full Review Shannon McGrew Nightmarish Conjurings [The Houses October Built was very creepy and unsettling...you should [see it] especially if you are interested in the haunt industry. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 24, 2019 Full Review Abbie Bernstein Assignment X The Houses October Built is an entirely worthy Halloween film and it may legitimately make some folks think twice about off-the-map horror excursions. Rated: B Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Molly Henery The Blogging Banshee In my opinion, this film did not get as much credit as it deserved. While the ending was a bit lackluster, the overall storyline was very interesting and creepy. Rated: 7/10 Nov 3, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Craig B The Houses October Built is more a documentary than an actual horror film... well, for the first 3/4 anyway. So, right up front, don't go in thinking this is a straight up horror film. If you go in expecting a full horror movie, you'll be disappointed. I actually found the first 3/4 quite interesting as the doco crew visited well-known scare houses (real attractions like Thrillvania and Blue Skeleton) and interviewed staff and visitors. The last 1/4 is the 'actual' horror story, which was alright. Overall, an interesting film, but it won't satisfy everyone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Jason D Loved, Halloween staple. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Timothy P It is watchable but takes FOREVER to get to anything resembling a horror film, most of it plays like a documentary on Halloween attractions... which honestly would be more interesting than this turned out to be as a horror movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Audience Member Good horror movie. Very Creepy and effective. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Rob P It would have been good had it ended up being paranormal. Humans torturing humans needs to take a break as a concept. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Happy N Top of the found footage films! It's a fun ride through the whole film. Definitely worthy of watching more than once!
