The film continually highlights how easily the seemingly civilised, rational inhabitants of the small town lose their moral bearings - and how irrational their behaviour is. Go to Full Review

The acting on all fronts is outstanding, with Mikkelsen holding the centre magnificently as the wronged teacher, his life contaminated by the slow-acting poison of rumour. Go to Full Review

“The Hunt” can be difficult to watch. It’s confrontational and unflinching. Yet its thought-provoking questions are soaked in realism and relevance. Go to Full Review

It is those themes of communal psychology and the symbolism of loss of innocence that make 'The Hunt (Jagten)' a truly immersive drama. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The Hunt is not exactly date movie. In fact, unless you enjoy the feeling of simmering in a warm tub smothered with guilt gravy and stewing in awkward juice, things are going to get uncomfortable. Go to Full Review

Jay W Oct 31 This story has shades of "The Crucible" with a bit of "The Scarlet Letter" thrown in there. Mads Mikkelsen plays Lucas. He has the highest stress little reward job there is, being a Kindergarten teacher. A despicable rumor is started about Lucas and things spiral out of control. Soon, he is punished at work, custody for his child is in question, the police are involved and the whole town turns against him. The damage to his professional career is rough, but the consequences to his reputation seem irreversible. The performance by Mads Mikkelsen is what it looks like when a top-tier actor is giving a next level performance. As you watch, it is physically impossible not to feel bad for this guy. The only way I got through it was to pretend that this was happening to one of Mikkelsen's other characters like Hannibal. Then this film becomes far more cathartic. This film manages to tap into an inherent fear of being wrongfully accused and holds on it for nearly 2 hours. The movies tackles themes of mob mentality, judgment and trust. It never feels heavy handed or artificial. The movie does jump over some story elements that I would have liked to see. Some moments might feel a little rushed. But overall, this was a gripping tale. Hunt it out and give it a watch. Just prepare yourself it is a heavy one. See more Leprechaun K @LeprechaunKing Oct 7 Had high expectations for it given all the raving reviews. First 2/3 of the movie was excellent, albeit the plot at times seem illogical. The story takes a nose dive toward the end. The movie's finish was utmost unsatisfying. See more Gareth v Aug 11 A powerful, emotionally gripping drama that lingers long after the credits roll — a modern classic of moral complexity. See more EE D Jun 30 Very disappointing, the movie isn't going well balancing itself but falls into 1 narrative that is just infuriating, couldn't even finish watching it See more Hector I May 28 In a quiet village in Denmark's beautiful democracy, a kindergarten teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) is accused of sexual abuse by a child. Suddenly, his whole life is turned upside down, and most of his friends, family and colleagues become involved in a manhunt in a judicial and, above all, human system that has gone mad. A powerful echo of the latest cases and, more generally, of social banishment, even after a judgment that clears you. This social killing is even more violent in a small community, almost making you miss the anonymous big cities. It's a committed, courageous film about the wrongly accused, whom we'd almost forgotten. It's also about the evolution of children's voices in modern society, and the timeless ravages of rumor. Yes, it lacks a little restraint at times, but everything is done to make us take the hero's side, even if his softness sometimes annoys. All this is set against splendid Scandinavian landscapes, soberly and magnificently filmed in a film ending that leaves all its darkness to the subject.
