Geoffrey Macnab Sight & Sound The film continually highlights how easily the seemingly civilised, rational inhabitants of the small town lose their moral bearings - and how irrational their behaviour is. Apr 9, 2018 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) The acting on all fronts is outstanding, with Mikkelsen holding the centre magnificently as the wronged teacher, his life contaminated by the slow-acting poison of rumour. Rated: 4/5 Dec 16, 2013 Full Review James Adams Globe and Mail The Hunt's inexorability feels derived more from thematic or ideological concerns than any organic necessity. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 16, 2013 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “The Hunt” can be difficult to watch. It’s confrontational and unflinching. Yet its thought-provoking questions are soaked in realism and relevance. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 21, 2022 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia It is those themes of communal psychology and the symbolism of loss of innocence that make 'The Hunt (Jagten)' a truly immersive drama. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Jun 25, 2020 Full Review Ryan Syrek The Reader (Omaha, NE) The Hunt is not exactly date movie. In fact, unless you enjoy the feeling of simmering in a warm tub smothered with guilt gravy and stewing in awkward juice, things are going to get uncomfortable. Hector I In a quiet village in Denmark's beautiful democracy, a kindergarten teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) is accused of sexual abuse by a child. Suddenly, his whole life is turned upside down, and most of his friends, family and colleagues become involved in a manhunt in a judicial and, above all, human system that has gone mad. A powerful echo of the latest cases and, more generally, of social banishment, even after a judgment that clears you. This social killing is even more violent in a small community, almost making you miss the anonymous big cities. It's a committed, courageous film about the wrongly accused, whom we'd almost forgotten. It's also about the evolution of children's voices in modern society, and the timeless ravages of rumor. Yes, it lacks a little restraint at times, but everything is done to make us take the hero's side, even if his softness sometimes annoys. All this is set against splendid Scandinavian landscapes, soberly and magnificently filmed in a film ending that leaves all its darkness to the subject. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Faiz D Very sad and real film Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Alberto C Typical Nordic film, serious and profound, nothing Hollywood about it, except for the happy ending, which is a shame. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Audience Member Nordic filmography at its finest. Gritty and depressing atmosphere combined with brilliant acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/25 Full Review Millie C So tense! This movie will have you on the edge of your seat and bring tears to your eyes. It was so good, definitely a must see from me, enjoyed it so much and would 100% recommend it, an intriguing and unique story i’ve never seen portrayed before and Lucas is played so well by Mads Mikkelsen, so impressed with how much this movie impacted me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Marit Risto F Tragic story about lies, and prejudice against male caretakers. There's general frustration, and horror. A pity that Mikkelsen always plays the bad guy, or the one getting into trouble. He's so wonderful in many ways Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
