      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Hustle's stars might make an effective comedy team in a different setting, but this gender-flipped remake of a remake adds little beyond its feminine twist.

Libby A Mindless, but fun. If you need to not think too hard, expect a few ridiculous laughs and are willing to fast forward through a few boring parts you will Love this movie. It was.. entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Dawn F I really tried to like this movie. But it was awful…from the fake accents to the ridiculous storyline. Turned it off 30 minutes in. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Cheryl F I liked it. Some parts were over the top, but overall lighthearted fun. Rebel Wilson is an amazing comedic actress. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Jeff M Is there anything more miserable than an unfunny comedy? I don't think so. This movie is D.O.A. practically from the opening credits. And one can only marvel at the fact that no one tried to stop these people midstream and convince them to cut their losses and move on to another project ASAP. I'm not a fan of either of these leading ladies, and this movie truly brings out the worst in each of them. Wilson's work here makes Jim Carrey in DUMB AND DUMBER seem subtle. And it's truly uncomfortable to watch her trying so hard and achieving so little. Hathaway practically sleepwalks through the whole thing. In my opinion, she is generally a cold actress who comes across as a grown-up version of a TODDLERS AND TIARAS participant. She knows the steps but there is no heart. And as for Sharp, I can't recall such a "nothing" performance in recent memory. The humor is non-existent, the endless twists and turns are predictable and I can think of no reason to recommend this whatsoever. A waste of time and a definite low-point for all involved! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Jonathan A This movie was excruciatingly tedious. It's not worth wasting any more of my time to write more. Avoid! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review Timothy D The Hustle runs on Hathaway's and Wilson's comedy chops and succeeds. There's not much more to it, but it does mindless comedy well. Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A generally unfunny and regressive remake. Sep 28, 2019 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review This is a slab of cold, unfunny comedy, just lying there, very very odd given the two talented performers at the center of it. May 22, 2019 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com The Hustle just isn't very good, and the only con being pulled is on any audience member who has found themselves coerced into buying a ticket. Rated: 1/4 May 22, 2019 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Whatever you want to call Chris Addison’s The Hustle — a remake, a reimagining, a lazy retread — either way, his film is unoriginal, uninspired, and unworthy of your time. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine Just as there is little more tedious in film than a comedy that is not funny, there is also little more tiresome than a crime caper that is predictable.
