Critics Consensus

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone serves up some goofy laughs, but given its outrageous conceit, it's surprisingly safe and predictable.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk With its silly, glittery costumes and warring stars, this basically does for magic what Blades Of Glory did for ice skating. Rated: 3/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Wesley Morris Grantland Since every funny moment here involves cynicism, arrogance, heartlessness, and self-destruction, you never believe the movie when it's telling you how nice and contrite these characters are. Jan 6, 2014 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) The Incredible Burt Wonderstone makes the classic mistake of thinking a comedy about magicians will be magical. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/02/25 Full Review Yoosik Ethan O This is a fun comedy and very underrated to me. I’m biased being a magician maybe, but I love the magical references and the parodies of real life magi. Carell and Buscemi have great comedic chemistry and the supporting cast including Olivia Wilde and Jim Carrey are a great addition to this comedy. A fun time at the films that I would watch again and again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Mike P Steve Carell and Jim Carey are hilarious! If you don’t like this movie your sense of humor sucks. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Blu B This has the grounds for a clever comedy with plenty of visual gags for the medium. It...kind of does maybe bare minimum? It's very subpar all around with basic direction. Which is a shame because it starts out kind of decent with setting things up and the tricks at the start are kind of the best and the humor is decent too. But after The Hot Box scene it just tanks off a cliff in pretty much every aspect. Steve Grey, His partner falling out, the pointless romance, getting his job back at Baly's, his relationship with Arkin, all of it is so mudded, unfunny, and boring at times. It legit just keeps slowly going downhill the entire way. And it's barely 90 minutes without credits. The humor just becomes so lazy, gross out, shock humor, and just unfunny. It reminds of like Airplane II where it just runs out of gas so early firing it's best gags all at the start and just dives. It becomes very predictable also. The final big climax of making the audience disappear is so farfetched and ridiculous too. Everyone just happens to wake up at the same time TWICE? It's not as pretentious as something like Now You See Me but the characters also have nowhere near the depth of The Presitge either. And without humor it just falls apart terribly in shocking but very slow motion fashion. Skip This. It's also shcking how poor the material is they give to Jim Carrey as well in this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Nick H If you don’t like this movie I’ve left your favorite cake mix on the counter to enjoy later. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Logan H Great watch with many humorous moments, the ending of the movie was amazing and showed the transformation of character incredibly well throughout the movie.
