      Critics Consensus

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone serves up some goofy laughs, but given its outrageous conceit, it's surprisingly safe and predictable.

Emilliano Jr S Superb cast but horrible execution. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review M R This movie was too quirky for Jim Carrey and too off the wall for Steve Carell. I believe because it's not one of the greatest comedies ever made is the only reason it failed. People look at it very dismissively and I don't understand why. I enjoy the parodying of Criss Angel and believe it to be quite accurate. The David Blaine cameo was spot on. Steve's character is very well written and Olivia Wilde is lovely on all levels. On top of that you got James Gandolfini, Steve Buscemi and Alan Arkin rounding out a fantastic cast. The movie is brilliant at times but very formulaic which is its only fault and the fact that it casted two of the greatest Comedy performers in history whose last team up was the all time classic "Bruce Almighty". There was too much to live up to. If you could look at the film as if the leads are Steve Zahn and Jason Biggs instead then it ain't bad at all. Not even in the least. Grade: 79/100 C+ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Gareth v Has it's moments, but not many of them. A strong cast are wasted in this plodding comedy. Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk With its silly, glittery costumes and warring stars, this basically does for magic what Blades Of Glory did for ice skating. Rated: 3/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Wesley Morris Grantland Since every funny moment here involves cynicism, arrogance, heartlessness, and self-destruction, you never believe the movie when it's telling you how nice and contrite these characters are. Jan 6, 2014 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) The Incredible Burt Wonderstone makes the classic mistake of thinking a comedy about magicians will be magical. Rated: C- May 7, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins More humorous than any of the actual events in the film is the appearance of Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey together onscreen in outlandish costumes.
