The Intern doesn't do enough with its timely premise, but benefits from the unorthodox chemistry of its talented leads.

Grace Manger Bitch Media There seemed to be a lot of value placed on male approval, something Jules spent the entire film searching for, and ultimately finding in her intern. Feb 9, 2021 Full Review Megan Garber The Atlantic There's something powerful in that, in the simple fact that The Intern is so sympathetic to its older character-so resolutely on the side of a person who might, in other contexts, be dismissed or ignored or, as is so often the case, invisible. Jul 22, 2016 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine It's the kind of compulsively watchable film you'll be helpless to resist when it shows up on cable TV. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Meyers concocts a few madcap comedy situations to break up the otherwise low-key tone. Rated: 2.5/4 May 27, 2022 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles [Where] it succeeds its charm and grace, it lacks in depth. The meat of the story can be summarized in a sentence and ends up feeling somewhat superficially emotional... Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 9, 2021 Full Review Hosea Rupprecht Pauline Center for Media Studies Although many critics panned The Intern, I believe the film has much to say, especially in a society where the elderly are often mocked or ignored just because they seem old-fashioned or have a hard time with technology... Ryan T It is a heartwarming film that illustrates the value of learning from the wisdom of older generations while also emphasizing the importance of fostering one's own innovative ideas. It champions female empowerment, showcasing Jules's journey as she navigates the pressures of her professional and personal life without seeking external approval. Ultimately, "The Intern" underscores the importance of listening to one's own voice and trusting personal instincts, making it a compelling narrative about mentorship, innovation, and self-reliance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Jack F Light, feel good movie with a positive message. Nice chemistry between the 2 leads of Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Some of the scenes felt slightly out of character but generally overall a positive experience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review mandeep m It is a beautiful movie made with love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Elisabeth E The Intern is one of the few movies I have ever tried watching for the first time on my own that kept my interest. I loved the "fish out of water" that was De Niro's performance as a "Senior Intern" as a composed and bemused man who is well aware of his age and how it affects the young employees he interacts with throughout the film. He quietly accepts their well-meant but sometimes mildly offensive treatment in a way that shows grace and quiet confidence. Ben knows what he wants, a purpose and a place to belong, and he never assumes that just because they are young they can't all work together or even become friends. Jules is amazing. Anne Hathaway is predictably incredible and for me, a foil to the typical internet bro startup dude. She has to have talent and confidence to build what she has built in a "man's world," and yet some of the men closest to her let her down and almost bring her down. Old school Ben doesn't; he sees her and is the perfect intern. Together, they are amazing; Jules as caring and brilliant and never-stops-working and never-stops-loving her family and her work, and Ben, who just wants her to live her dreams and carries a handkerchief. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Miguel F Made me so happy and really warmed me up from start to finish. It is about the importance of community, and how being always ready to contribute and caring for others can unlock so many change. Really inspiring, especially in a time of increasing distancing, loneliness and many people losing their sense of purpose. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
