Critics Consensus

Unfortunately overshadowed by controversy (and under-screened as a result), The Interview's screenplay offers middling laughs bolstered by its two likable leads.

Emily St. James Vox Even the film's most ardent champions would likely concede that The Interview is a spectacularly weird film to end up at the center of a free speech brouhaha. Sep 26, 2016 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire It's funny and strange, with an admirably gonzo sensibility, and it approaches the job of mocking Kim with the appropriate degree of joy-buzzer delight. Jun 7, 2016 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader The suffocating level of redundancy on display kneecaps any legitimate chance the film had at embracing social satire. Rated: 1/4 Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A funny, silly, stupid comedy that will make some people laugh, others not so much. Any response beyond that is an overreaction. Rated: 3/4 Jul 13, 2022 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages The Interview will impress many when the mood turns serious, but these faux-moments of shrewdness come only after the non-stop, over-the-top antics from James Franco. Jun 27, 2022 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz If you want a real envelope-pushing, controversial, yet uproariously funny movie in your life right now, then go seek out (or revisit) the truly anarchic Team America: World Police. Fraco... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Alfred Junior T Makes it a good storyline with Franco and Rogen and the production was a good idea Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Joshua P Pretty good film! I really liked it. Not a big fan of the whole "two lovable dumbasses from different lives become friends only for them to betray each other", it was done ok here though, Great soundtrack, I love the White Stripes. Seth Rogen is great, I love him. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Allen F This is a masterclass genius film that broke the internet and nearly caused international conflict. That is funny enough in and of itself. Great writing and fun acting. The story is perfect in its message. Hilarious film and really underrated Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Lawrence W Funny sometimes, but as subversive and punchy as it thinks it is, it really isn't. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Dionisis T Couldn't stop laughing while watching it with my brother! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
