If you are interested in a crime drama to spend a night alone with, then this would be a very, very good choice. Go to Full Review

The result, despite the presence... Jos Coronado or Brbara Lennie, can only be qualified by one word: derailment. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The assured, at times bombastic direction, as well as the passionate performances, help distract from the more implausible aspects of the plot. Go to Full Review

It's always good when a film sells improbability, but without harrassing the audience, especially if doesn't advance almost nothing in its plot regarding its approach. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Some O. @Some1 Jul 15 The ending of the movie reminds you of the funny endings of Indian movies. See more Ennio O Jul 10 Absolutely great movie. See more Sérgio N Mar 6 Excellent Spanish suspense film with a very intriguing narrative until the surprising ending. Of course, we can say that some things were relatively obvious, but there were still shocking revelations. It is interesting to note that due to its popularity, the film inspired several remakes in different languages, such as: "The Invisible Witness" (2018) – Italian, "Badla" (2019) – Hindi version, "Evaru" (2019) – Telugu film and "Confession" (2022) – South Korean adaptation. Oriol Paulo directed this gem and was also part of the script. There are other titles in the lineup, but I only know the also interesting "Durante la Tormenta", from 2018. Maybe it is worth checking out the others. I recommend it! See more Feb 22 I’ve watched it so many times and recommended it to all my friends because this movie is just too good. There’s never a dull moment, and the plot is incredibly engaging. A truly amazing suspense film—one of my all-time favorites! See more Kevin C Feb 2 Fantastic twisty thriller from Spain. You maybe don't like reading subtitles, and sometimes the dialogue goes by too fast so you have to rewind to read something you missed, but it's all worth it. I marvelled at the cleverness of the script long after the credits rolled, it's a great ride. See more Gabriel S 10/20/2024 Fans of mystery thrillers should find entertainment on Contratiempo, or The Invisible Guest as it was known in the US. Yes, it is a bit slow, but that’s perhaps its fortune and curse. The story follows Adrián Dorian, a successful businessman that is on trial for the murder of a woman with whom he had an affair. The appearance of a new key witnesses on the prosecution’s case has Adrián turn to great defense attorney Virginia Goodman, who wants to revise every detail of the case to make sure they have a compelling defense, but, again, the key to his innocence is in the details. This movie is essentially a long dialogue between Adrián and Virginia with flashbacks untrustworthy flashbacks narrating the events that culminated in Laura’s demise, thus making Adrián the prime suspect. An inconvenience set the story in motion, and every bit of fact and nuance must go under review. It is a compelling story that keeps you hooked on the curiosity of knowing if Adrián is guilty or not. If you don’t mind its slowness and lack of action, if you enjoy the story for what it is rather than pursuit meaningless or over-the-top stunts and everything is high-concept, than Contratiempo will deliver for you a good experience. There is not much to talk about the tech aspects of this movie. It is well shot and has no need for CGI, everything either being a camera trick or just a plain scene. The acting is overall okay, though the Portuguese dub was a bit off, rather planky and emotionless. Overall, Contratiempo is a good entry on the mystery thriller genre, delivering on its premise and setting you for a payoff that is well-thought and justified. I think you won’t be let down if you endure its slowness; it is a movie about the story, not about the action. See more Read all reviews
