Peter Bradshaw Guardian An intriguing work, modestly and intelligently conceived, a supernatural melodrama characterised by an eerie sort of restraint. Rated: 3/5 May 1, 2019 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times The picture's a pleasure to watch throughout, largely because of Eilean Shona. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Low-budget earnest but bland attempt at a horror/suspense thriller that just can't overcome a stale, predictable and unimaginative plot. Rated: C+ Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Rob Aldam Backseat Mafia An eerie and unnerving drama Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Fiona Underhill JumpCut Online An atmospheric and intriguing story, with stunning visuals and music. Jack S The gorgeous cinematography of a lonely Scottish island is the one and only asset in this otherwise forgettable, low-budget ghost story. There are unfortunately no particularly scary nor suspenseful moments generated by the weak story or, by the exceptionally dull cast of characters—of which sadly no one is interesting enough for the audience to care about. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Bob O The Isle beguiles with setting as lead character, eerily developed in image and inspired sound. I like my thrillers taut, tense and economical, with an omnipresent threat and minimal violence; a continuous sense of the slip knot slowly sliding up the noose. In all of the above, the movie delivers. Look for Lord Varys from GoT, unrecognizable in an understated performance from Conleth Hill. If you appreciate tasteful understatement from inventive filmmakers on a tight budget, you'll find much to like on The Isle. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Keith H Takes a Greek myth and bores you too death with it Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/22 Full Review Liam D A throwback to gothic Mystery and Thriller movies of the past while adding something new Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/22 Full Review Audience Member The film does a good job of conveying the foreboding mood, and desolation of the island. The plot is interesting, and the acting is good for the first three quarters of the film. Sadly, as more is revealed as to what is at the heart of the film's plot. The acting, because of the director(?), became more "wooden" and of less quality. Overall, it is a good film considering its limited cast of actors, and probable low budget. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Jesse D A silly, lame, predictable horror movie. I bet theres been 700 movies with the same plot rehashed over and over since victorian times.
